Yesterday We...

Chris_swearingin
Yesterday we went to the Oregon State Capitol for Chris' swearing-in ceremony as a State Senator.

Chris was appointed to fill this seat by the local County Commissioners after Senator Vicki Walker was appointed to chair the Parole Board. It's been busy and exciting around here as he went through the process of seeking this appointment.

For those of you outside the US, this is the elected body that makes laws and sets budgets in our state (Oregon). We also have a National Congress that meets in Washington DC. They make laws for the entire United States. Each state has their own branches of government that mirror the set up at the national level.

Chris moved from the House of Representatives here in Oregon where there were 60 members to the Senate where there are 30. Chris represents somewhere around 115,000 people.

Governor Kulongoski presided over the swearing in (he's the same Governor I have written about before) and both Chris' and my Mom were able to attend.

Simon was most excited about the cake of course.

WOW! That is really exciting! I've been following your blog since this spring, but didn't realize what Chris did! The great state of Oregon (my neighbor as I'm from WA) is so lucky to have him! (AND that of his family's support!)

That is wonderful. Congratulations Chris. Here in Australia people grumble a lot about politicians; I expect it is the same in the US. Politicians bring so much to our community though and we all appreciate that. They also work seemily very long hours, and I have often wondered how they fit it all in.
Thanks for sharing the scrapbook pages yesterday. I always appreciate you sharing your work.

Funny thing how I feel so proud of Chris and you all! But I guess that comes from reading and loving your stuff over the years. Many congrats!

I love that pic of little Anna touching Simon's head. My baby girl does the same thing to her big brother. She's fascinated with his hair.
