For The Love Of Sweet Lily Girl

Our sweet Lily girl passed away peacefully yesterday after an awesome last run on the beach she loved so much.

She was the most fabulous friend and we will miss her everyday. She had a wonderfully full life during her 12+ years with us. She especially loved going hunting with Chris or my Dad, running on the beach, and hanging out with me in my office.

She was my constant companion and was by my side during all the best and most challenging times. I had the thought today that maybe she stayed around (she was very sick in the summer of 2011 but pulled through) to be with me during the time I needed her most.

I am so thankful she was a part of my life.

Love you Lily girl. Thank you.

See more photos and read a post from 2011 about her story here.

Ali I’m very sorry for your loss. Saturday morning we lost our little Cookie. She was a beautiful Cocker Spaniel. She gave us 13 wonderful years. Friday night I brought her upstairs and put her next to my bed where she always slept. She was very frail but got up and walked to my daughter’s bedroom. She stayed with her for a few minutes and came back to my room. I feel she wanted to say one last good by to my daughter. The next morning my daughter told me that she talked to Cookie and told her it was OK to let go, not to be afraid and that she loved her. She passed away at 5:30 Saturday morning. Our little doggies come to this world to teach us so many lessons, the most important of all is unconditional love.

Ali – I’m so sorry you are going through this. It is so hard to lose a loyal companion like Lily. As my dad has said each time we lose one of our furry friends “God only lends them to us for a short time”. I think you are right that she hung in there a bit longer to get you through a rough time. Dogs are little furry angels.

Sigh….that is hard, but to go peacefully after a wonderful beach run? who could ask for more? A major life lesson for the children. Hugs to all.

I am so sorry Ali! I have tears reading this post as I too lost my best friend a month before she turned 18! She was a lab, border collie, springer spaniel cross named Brittany.
It was very hard. I totally know what you’re going through!
    Thinking of you.

Their lives are never long enough to share with us. Fur children give us so much love & yet ask so little of us. Sending you & the family some positive energy.

Great photo tribute to Lily, a bloom now in a different garden.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Our black lab Tasha went peacefully in our arms on Thursday so I feel your pain. She was 16 and again a family member, friend, confidante and hunting partner for my husband. My three girls (22,16,7) are devastated even though we know that she had a great long life. Sending hugs to all of you.

So sad to hear this. I’m sure you’ve seen that email about a kid explaining why dogs don’t live as long as humans—dogs are so good at their “job” on Earth, that they don’t have to stay here as long to get it done as humans do. We’ve had three wonderful Labs and I still miss them all.

So sorry for your loss! I remember seeing Lily very early on in visiting your blog. I lost my black lab last year, and feel the same way, she hung on despite failing health to be there for me. This is when scrapbooking means so much more, having all these pics and stories.

Ali, so sorry that you have lost Lily. I am certain she hung around a couple of extra years to be by your side when you needed her most. Dogs seem to have an amazing people understanding. You wrote such a beautiful piece about her, and I know she was fortunate to have enjoyed her life with you. May your tears lighten as the days pass even though I know nothing will quite fill that place in your heart that belongs to Lily.

Ali, I’m so sorry for your loss. I too had a dog that was old but seemed to hang on until I came home after my stroke and was strong enough to make it on my own. That’s how much our dogs love us.

I’m glad Lily had one last run on the beach and that you had 12 wonderful years with her. Hugs to your family.

No dog lives for forever. Sounds like Lily was a great companion for many years. The fact she got to go out after a run on the beach speaks volumes. Your heart breaks but then you think about all the great memories. This too shall pass.
