Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero

Superhero

Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]

Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.

Andrea_ben_by_denise

I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.

Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).

Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.

To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.

Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

I have faith and an overwhelming sense of joy and I share it with others. I hold tight to it everyday and hope that by my smile or kind word or goofy joke, I made a difference, however small, in someone's day.

So many have said Supermom (and rightfully so!)...Hmmm...My superpower is...SHUFFLING. Yes. But not with cards (although, a trip to Vegas to get away doesn't sound bad! Mmmm...buffets...) I shuffle 20 5th graders every day, their papers, their lessons, their attitides, their complaints, their triumphs. I shuffle my ever growing district duties (I HAVE to have my hands in every pie it seems!). But most of all, I shuffle my day to spend every possible minute with my lil man, Oliver. He makes me supershuffle, he makes me supermom. Love my boy!

I have loved her necklaces since I first saw them - at Tara Whitney's blog, I think.
    Thanks for the chance, Ali!

Like the scout motto - "Be Prepared." I think I am good at that. After raising three girls, I think I had to learn how to be prepared or perish.

Love this colorful jewelry! Thanks for the giveaway. I think one of my superpowers is getting a healthy meal on the table almost every night (I usually take a break one weekend night). I love the time we spend together as a family around the table, saving money by eating at home, and eating healthy food.

Aren't we all thrilled that you read her blog and decided to start your own - you enrich our lives so much. My superpower - I am the eternal encourager. I try to keep everyone looking at the glass as half full instead of half empty. I have so enjoyed reading everyone's superpowers. I also identify with the finder of lost things - that is my role at our home as well. Must be a "woman thing". Also, loved the "I make milk" and growing a baby. We do tend to take ourselves for granted! Raising families requires many superpowers!

Wow what a necklace. My superhero qualities have been in the last year while my husband has been in a very demanding school I have handled everything that keep us going and my husbands motivation. That included finding and buying a house all while moving from another state and unpacking and keeping food in front of my husband. He graduated in December and told me on graduation that I was the only reason he made it and I deserved some jewerly for that. I was so shocked that he had realized I had been pulling for both of us for 10 months!!!

    Hi Ali...
First, I hope today finds you feeling well as you anxiously await Baby A.
As for any superhero power I have...those that receive cards and notes from me say that I have a lovely way of expressing my thoughts in order to make the receipient feel special. I do feel I am much better at writing than speaking, so it makes me feel nice to know that my family and friends enjoy what I say. It's a bit of pressure sometimes when you think someone is expecting you to be profound, and I don't write nearly as many notes as I'd like, but when I do, I think I do it well.
As for a real superpower...I asked Santa for the one that Bewitched had, and I'll keep asking until my twitching nose works...wouldn't that be a great power for all women to have?
Thanks for sharing one of your personal favorites with us...Angela

I am especially adept at humor. I can usually diffuse any tense situation with a comment that is subtle and humorous and helps folks put the situation into perspective. I am also told that I am the consummate diplomat. I believe that its my quirky and midwestern (though I am not from the midwest) sense of humor that are my true superhero powers. Love her jewelry.thank you for sharing your friend wtih all of us.

I don't think I am a superhero at anything then I think of how deeply I love-I love with everything I have-I give it all and sometimes I get hurt but I never stop loving this way.

    Hi Ali (and Andrea),
I just love this game and went to see Andrea's collection. Love those colorful necklaces and I would love to own one of those starbust with "joy" engraved in them. Sterling silver is also my all time fave. Anyways, thought I'd share some super powers here although a lot of us possess it, not many would beleive in it. Yesterday, I was officially a home owner for the first time and despite this economic crisis, somehow, everything just fell into places. My hubby wanted to back out at the last minute since we're just ordinary people the live by cheques each day and right now, he's out of work. I just thought if you let fear get in the way, everthing will just remain a dream. But if you keep that positive, courageous faith, anything is possible. And that's how I've been feeling the last few days-the whole process of getting an approval for the house we wanted, acquiring a mortgage to finally sealing the deal from counter offering back and forth. And that same thought goes to anything we do in life. God is always there by our side if we accept that He has indeed created us with this super power. Sorry to occupy that much space. I am just the quiet person who cheers happiness with thoughts and words... And thanks for this opportunity Ali.

My superhero power is that I am my children's' biggest fan. I love them unconditionally and will always be the one they come to when they need to talk, cry, laugh, or when they need help. They will always know that they come first in my life and we have an awesome friendship - all five of my children are my best friends. Now, my 3 grandchildren are becoming the next generation of my best friends.

Wow...this is a tough one, because it's not something I ever think about in terms of myself. Thanks for helping me to sit down and think about this and see that, yes, I too am a "super hero". :) I would say that I am a super hero because when faced with the diagnosis of an Autism spectrum diagnosis for our son I didn't lose hope. I refused to believe that he couldn't still achieve all he might want to in the world. I only see the possibilities and all the hope for his future. I really think he is doing so well today, because I refused to believe anything other than that he could be successful. Is that optimism?! This necklace is BEAUTIFUL and whoever wins it is a lucky girl! Talk about feeling super...who wouldn't wearing this necklace?

I think my superpower is hospitality. It's not that my house is well decorated or particular stylish, but I can feed people and make them feel at home. I like to say that I'm channeling the spirit of my 5 foot tall (if that) Italian great-grandma who always fed people.

Well according to my friends and family, I am a superhero at organization, compassion and caregiving. My husband and I are full time caretakers of his mom, so all three of my superpowers are required.

My superpower is the ability to amaze myself! I have been in many situations that seems so impossible and somehow I can manage to survive, no, to THRIVE! I think it's a superpower everyone has, I've just had plenty of time to hone my skills!
    Beautiful necklaces, by the way!

My super power is that I can make a very small amount of money stretch, stretch and stretch to feed and take care of a household of 6, an active little dog, and friends and family when they need it!
    Love the jewelry.
