Get It Scrapped is giving away one spot in Pattie Knox's "More Mad Digital Skillz" online workshop.

Pattie Knox’s favorite part of digital scrapbooking is learning new techniques for creating realistic--as in “I can’t believe that’s not paper!”--layouts. In “More Mad Digital Skillz,” you’ll learn how to create torn edges on your photos and papers, how to insert photos into type, Pattie’s method for digital dry embossing, and much more about making your own brushes, working with custom shapes, and creating depth and interest with texture. Each lesson is accompanied by beautiful digital products from the talented artists at Designer Digitals—including Ali Edwards! Class starts May 25th at Get It Scrapped!

I love everyone's notebook and calendar ideas! I just look at the picture and take a deep breath and let the feelings flow onto the paper!

Keep a little notebook in your purse or car. So many times I think I'll write something down when I have time, and that time never seems to come. Just jot down a quick note when something comes to mind. It's much better to have them all in one place than the little post it notes I wrote on once my son was born.

I try to write down things as they happen, if I don't too many times it gets forgotten. I keep a small notebook in my purse also, just for writing down memories if they pop to mind.

Journaling/storytelling is always a challenge for me so I start with the facts (who, what, when, where) and then I think about my feelings about the particular story and before I know it I have some journaling on my page.

I think I read about this on Jessica Sprague's site, but I do a "Sentence a Day" journal on Google.docs. Usually it's more than a sentence, but since I don't expect more than that of myself it's pretty easy to remember to do it. Then when photos come back or are printed at home, I can go back to my journal. I use it as a starting place, usually rewriting it for my layout.

Especially when I'm traveling, I've found that I must have a small notebook with me to record details that I'll want to include later. There's no way I'm going to remember all I want to! Looking back at the pictures also really helps to evoke the feelings and impressions at that time.

Well, I didn't put those thoughts into words very well did I?
Correction: All I have to do when looking at a photo is begin to write my thoughts as I would be relating those memories to another person.

My journaling is best when I'm telling the story beyond the facts - digging deeper to include feelings and experiences.

I blog my pictures often, and then pick part of that blog post for my journaling. That's what I do for my Project 365. Other times, I use music quotes, as music is almost often my source of inspiration.

My best journaling tip is to journal as soon as possible after the photo and put it with the photos. When I do this, even if I don't get to scrapbook them for a month, I still have the memories of what I was feeling/thinking at that time. I also use Becky Higgins layout checklist, and put all of the pictures, etc. in a page protector so everything stays togeter.

I now carry (try)a calender note book with me. I jot down as much as I can in the square for that day then when I have time I can go back and make it sound better.

I try to describe exactly how I felt during the moment so when you are looking at the picture dpown the road you feel as if you were reliving the moment again!

I find myself getting overly wordy with my journaling, so I decide the main point I want to tell and where I want to put the story on my layout. I leave a certain amount of room (different depending on the story) and then force myself to tell the story in only that amount of space. This makes me use the best words I can find, because I'm limited on room. If I feel I need more, I just slip a journaling card behind a picture or on back of the layout.

My comment disappeared hopefully it will show up. In short I journal as I would share the story of the event with someone. I have never been very good at keeping journals so I just have to rely on my memory.

Because of the nature of my work, I carry my calendar with me always, even on vacation. So, for me on my calendar page all I have to do is write a few descriptive words to jog my memory about what it is that I want to say about that day, event, etc.

    my best tip...
    write from the heart...
    make it really you...
don't get caught up in what it "should" be...
    just let it be.
    :O)

I like to make lists. That way it's quick and easy, and I'm more likely to do it. Thanks for a chance at the great giveaways.
I don't have Photoshop yet (I know. I'm working on it!), so if I win that prize--please pass it on. Thanks!

I try to journal as soon as something happens. Attempting to answer the 5 w's: who, what, when, where & why is a good place to start. I try to write words + ideas in my daytimer, on scraps of paper in my purse and even call my voicemail and leave myself a message. I don't put any pressure on myself to capture every detail, just the most important ideas. If I don't do it in the momement, when I put together a page, i look at the pictures i have taken and ask myself what story do i want my kids want to remember.

My best advice is to not just tell the story of what is going on, but the feelings. The pictures say "It's a birthday", let your journalling say how you feel about the birthday... if it's a child, how you feel about how they've changed over the year, what you want from the next year, your favorite traits, etc. Support the pictures, but tell a different side of it.
