Sponsor Giveaway | Mary Ann Moss

GIVEAWAY | Three people will receive spots in Mary Ann Moss's online class Remains Of The Day.

Remains Of The Day is the antidote for all of those paper scraps that keep multiplying in your favorite scrap box and clogging up your artistic super highway. In this process AND project oriented class we’ll be constructing a shabby but sturdy journal (like this one) using all of that paper you’ve been hoarding. Ordinary life never looked better than seen through the pages of this stitched up journal of scraps.

Start by organizing! I find that I eventually want everything around me to be super organized, and I have to clean it all out in the process!

To declutter find 5 things each day for a week and give them to charity. Do this every couple of months and you will soon be free of extra stuff

It's too overwhelming to do all at one time. I begin in one room and work my way through.

My spring cleaning tip is one spot (not one room) at a time - it could be a part of a closet, a drawer, etc. And that spot should be worked on in short increments. If that bothers you, then pick a spot in each room or several spots in a room, and rotate through them in short increments. Picking spots and short increments is the key to not feeling overwhelmed.

Be ruthless when it comes to getting rid of stuff...donate it if it's in good shape. If it's not, toss it!!

My spring cleaning tip is to clean my pipes. I pour baking soda into the drain and add white vinegar. The vinegar causes the baking soda to foam up. When the foam goes down the drain so does anything its way. It helps to make the bath water empty fastest. I also clean the sink drain in the kitchen with the baking soda mixture then add ice with lemon rinds to sharpen and freshen the garbage disposal.

I avoid spring cleaning but always feel better when it's done. I love to open up the windows and let the fresh air in. Spring air has a great smell. Looking forward to some weather to cooperate here in snow covered Vermont. Fingers crossed for warmer weather soon . . .

Ali - my best advice would be to start with one room going through everything in that room. Clean each item, & part with those things that may no longer be of use. I also use this time to put things back in their correct place and to clean out every single drawer, cabinet, closet, etc. in that particular room. It is a great way to tackle one room at a time without being overwhelmed with the idea of a complete home spring clean. Thanks for the great giveaway!!

Fresh flowers, open windows and breaking down the list into smaller tasks, so it doesn't seem too overwhelming! Love the journal, thanks for a chance to win!

Start with the windows clean inside and out which makes life look a whole lot better. Of course, once they are clean they are left up to let the whole spring experince into the house.

When I'm in the serious spring cleaning mode, it means closest, etc.
I take everything out of one closet... set everything on the floor and on the kitchen table.
Clean the closet... vacuum, dust, etc... then as I put things back into the closet, I decide if I'll keep the item, and if I want to keep it, I wipe it off, or if it's clothing, hang it back up...
Everything else goes in to the yard sale box or for donating....
    Ahhh... clean, gleaned, organized closet.

First, I arrange for the kids to spend the weekend with the grandparents and then I tackle their rooms, getting rid of those happy meal toys and anything that's no longer age appropriate or that hasn't been played with in a long time. We also have a wall unit that spans the entire length of one wall and has about 20 baskets on it. Everything gets sorted and assigned a basket. I take pics of what's in the basket and label them so they can viaually see what's in it (1 is too young to read). This really helps keep it clean and they know where their toys are at and can actually play with them.

As for the rest of the house, we just pick one room at a time and tackle it together.

Tip: Be ruthless in culling out old stuff that you no longer have a use for and bless someone or an organization with, or even have a garage sale. When the economy improves, you can buy more but for right now - share what you have.

Why I would like/love to win this - to learn new techniques, of course. I have absolutely lurked MAM's blog lately and would like to try this dry approach to journaling - no sprays or paints. Also, to learn how to make the signatures in these journals as I usually buy or alter a pre-made book.

Thanks for the opportunity and good luck to all.

I'm not always good at doing this myself but if you haven't used an item in 6 months get rid of it. You probably won't miss it anyway.
