Project Life 2012 | Week Twenty

Welcome to Project Life 2012 | Week Twenty.

Some weeks my end result feels just okay. I don't dwell on that at all because I know, from experience, that it's the whole I'm most interested in vs. any one of the weeks.

That said, I really like this week. I went for photos in just about every single pocket - most with words added in Photoshop before printing. In the middle I added another 6x12 insert that holds words from a post and new words from my weekend adventure.

Here's a look at Week Twenty:

For journaling directly on my photos I'm using a font called Sentinel.

Here's a closer look at some of those images:

The "love this" arrow is from this set: Arrow Sentiments Outline and Stamps (you'll see how I also used it with the Silhouette below).

Heidi Swapp Disco Arrow on top of a "printing mistake" (black & white vs. color) that I then used to test out some pens.

Summer Quote Strips recolored yellow and placed on top of my photo before printing. If you are interested in learning how to work with PNG files and other digital elements like this on your photos check out my Getting Started With Digital Scrapbooking series (free).

"Wednesday I heart" is from the Today I Love Brushes & Stamps set. I had fun identifying things in the photo with text.

The 6x12 insert is text from my "I Am" post last week with a long, slim photo along the edge.

Along the seam where the journaling meets the photo I added a letter sticker from American Crafts (Hardcover Silver), a long machine stitched line, and a Avery index tab.

For the backside of the insert I decided to print out a full-page, 6x12 photo and write my journaling directly on top.

Loved the result.

Here's what it looked like printed with the corners rounded before writing (this is the looking up at the Space Needle from the bottom in case you were wondering):

And here's what it looked like after I journaled about my weekend:

I used a Sakura Pen-Touch White Calligrapher Pen (fine tip - 1.8mm). My first time using that pen and it was great.

A look at page two:

All photos from my Seattle overnight.

In the far left pocket I added two "love this" arrows from the Arrow Sentiments Outline and Stamps Set cut with the Silhouette Cameo.

Here's what it looks like from the back (what you'll see next week):

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. the space needle photo! That one would have "wall potential" in my house, without the journaling though. Awesome week Ali, thanks for sharing.

Love that you got to spend the weekend with a whole group of people who undoubtedly didn't even blink twice or roll their eyes when you to whipped out a camera and take a picture of your wine!

Hey there! So, just got a Silhouette Cameo and have started playing with it a little. Any tips on how to remove the more detailed designs without tearing them?

For this one I ended up using a thinner cardstock - American Crafts vs. Bazzill. The Bazzill got really eaten up and this one came out smooth with the same settings (heavy cardstock).

It looks great! But I'm curious about how you print your 6x12 pages??

I use an Epson R2000 printer - it can print up to 13x19. That one was printed on the 13x19 paper and then trimmed out.

    Hi Ali:

I was wondering: I don't own a computer (i know this must make many of you gasp) and I only do "old fashioned" scrapbooking. I love the look of font on the photos. would this work with a stamp? Is there a particular type of ink you recommend? Or is it just best to use one of the white pens? Thanks!

Hi Kelly - I haven't had much luck with white inks (it's been awhile since I tried again though). But yes, you can stamp on photos. I've used StazOn ink in the past and it works well.

Love your layout this week. Probably one of my favorites.
BTW, sad news from Scrapbook Update...Hambly Studios is winding down business. I am really going to miss their overlays. I learned about them through your use of their products. Guess I need to stock up :(

Wondering about the white pen. I have numerous white pens that refuse to work on any paper / photos etc. Would this pen be available in Australia? Thanks

Hi Ann - I have no idea. I'm thinking I must have gotten it at an art supply store. You might be able to check the Sakura website for an Australian distributor.

Love the white journaling on the Space Needle photo! Awesome!

I am happy to say I am up to date! However, mine is more of a Project 52 than a 365 (or 366 this year), that way I don't fret over taking a photo a day!

Your layout is as usual just so lovely, great photos and love the 6x12 journalling insert on both sides ( but especially the Space Needle photo with the black writing ). LOVE the silhouette cut outs as well - definitely going to try that :). I'm going out on a limb here and suggesting this weeks layout is like and onion (!!) - simple at first glance, but when you peel back the layers, and look closely at each photo and the photo notes on them, you get the overall feeling of the week and all it's components and looked like a fun week. ( sorry shift worker here in Australia and in urgent need of sleep but really wanted to comment here !! lol...time for bed for me!) Thanks Ali for sharing and inspiring us again. Beth :)

Not sure about that - I do know that you can do a 30-day trial of Photoshop Elements to test it out. http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_elements&loc=en_us

Picasa is a free program for editing and enhancing your photos. It {easily} allows you to put text on them as well. Here: http://picasa.google.com/ (if the link doesn't work, simply google Picasa). Have FUN! ~Judy
