December Daily® 2016 | Announcements & Schedule & How It Works

It's time to start initial thinking about December Daily® for 2016

It's definitely not time to bring out your Christmas stuff (unless you really, really want to) but it is time to start thinking about how you want to document your holiday season.

Around here we start that off by sharing new December Daily® products right around the first of September. This year we have changed the name of this ordering time from "pre-order period" to "order selection period." There was some confusion in the past regarding "pre-order" and what that meant when products sell out. In keeping with our goal of clear communication we hope that changing the name will help make it more clear that when things sell out they are likely gone. The production timeline for these products began in early 2016 - for us that means design, production, manufacturing, etc. - and we make every effort to order in quantities that will meet demand but that are also responsible business decisions (and some of those things are tough to predict). Thank you for understanding.

Last week we announced the Mini Kit designers:  Jasmine JonesPam GarrisonHolly Becker of Decor8Liz Tamanaha of Paislee Press, and Kelly Mindell of Studio DIY!. Today we have sneak peeks of my main kit also available. You can check them all out here - click on the photo circle on that page to see sneak peeks of each of their kits. Full kits will be revealed when the order selection period begins this Thursday. On that page you will also find a sign up if you are interested in receiving December Daily® specific emails leading up to and during the holiday season (please note this is a separate email list from our regular marketing emails).

Here's a look at the general timeline for 2016:

ORDER SELECTION PERIOD BEGINS THIS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st

On September 1st at 8am PST the order selection period will begin (kits + albums + other add-on products). You will be able to locate the shopping page under the December Daily® 2016 menu at the top of this page. Products are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited. The selection period, where you can add products to your December Daily® box, will be open until September 30th.

HOW ORDERING WORKS

  • Add products to your December Daily® box.
  • Click "Order Box" to start the checkout process.
  • Review your order and click "Confirm Selection." At that time your credit card will be charged for the items you added to your box.
  • Throughout the month of September you can add more products to your December Daily® box (your card will be charged each time you click "Confirm Selection"). For example if on 9/3 you select my kit + Jasmine's kit, you will be charged for those two kits at that time. If you return on 9/10 and add an album and a stamp set to your box you will be charged for those items at that time. Once shipping begins in October, we'll pack everything up and send it to you.
  • The December Daily® box process includes a "Your Shipping" section which will allow you to see how much your current shipping charges are at any time.
  • Shipping charges, if they apply to your order, will be charged upon shipment.

Shipping rates for all items are as follows (these are the same as last year):

  •     Mini Kits: $2 US / $3 CAN / $4 Int'l per kit
  •     Main Kit: FREE US / $4 CAN / $7 Int'l per kit
  •     Pre-Order Shop Items (dies, stamps, and tab stickers): Free shipping to everyone
  •     Albums: $3 US / $4 CAN / $7 Int'l per album
  •     Domestic customers who spend $99 on items will receive free shipping.

DIGITAL PRODUCTS AVAILABLE OCTOBER 10

December Daily® digital products for this year including the kits (cards + embellishments that translate to digital products), layered templates, and other products will be available for sale on October 10th (time TBA).

STORYTELLING WITH DECEMBER DAILY® WORKSHOP BEGINS NOVEMBER 1

Starting November 1st I'll be re-running my well-received Storytelling With December Daily® workshop. The main content of this workshop will be the same as it was last year since it was a deep-dive into my processes and inspirations and storytelling ideas for the project since I first started - includes video walk-throughs and in-depth discussions of all my past albums and the way I told stories in each one. This workshop is not about working with any specific kit or product. I'll be adding in a new video overview of my 2015 album with new thoughts and reflections to this year's workshop. Please note that we are considering an alumi option for people interested in participating again with the live community and will have more details as we get closer to registration.

If you are brand new to the concept of  December Daily® you can check out all my past projects here. You can also check out all my past blog posts sharing my foundation pages, processes, stories and more in my archives here

So excited!! I do have a question Ali. I know you and SC work together, and this may have been asked before... When ordering from SC you can add an item to your cart, and you are given five min to close out your purchase giving you time to continue to shop, without an item being sold out from under you. Is this something you've considered? I know on day to day purchases it wouldn't matter, but on big reveal days and sales I think customers would appreciate knowing that the items in their cart are their's for a specific amount of time. It happened to me when you put last years kits on sale and I was able to add the add on kit along with other items trying to get to free shipping, but by the time I went to close it out, it was gone. And honestly I didn't order anything after that, since that one kit is why I was ordering.
    Just a thought.

Hi - thanks for asking. The cart timer can be a controversial subject :). We do not plan to start using that functionality on my site. In this order period your shipping rate can change based on what you add to your box over the course of the month. Let's say on the day it goes live you order a main kit + a mini kit and check out. That's not enough to reach free domestic shipping. At that time you are charged for the kits and you can see your current shipping cost along the right side of the page. If you come back later in the week or the month and add more to your box and check out you could reach the free shipping threshold (and it would be reflected under the "current shipping cost" section. Does that make sense? I know it's not the exact response you are looking for :).

Thank you:) I understand the free shipping for the December Daily ordering period. It was more about eliminating the anxiety of having to order each item separately to guarantee you get it.

Having a timer on the site would bring a whole new set of problems. I think the best option is to checkout the item/s you most want first, then go back to the other items you are considering. Doing this won't incur additional shipping charges like it would normally.

      08/29/2016

Yep... Wasn't really about shipping. That was just an example of it happening to me because I was working towards free shipping for that particular order.

You mean, you have 5 items in your cart, you're shopping for a 6th one and then by the time you go and pay, one or two items from your cart are sold out?

      Yes Heidi, exactly.

Love the looks of your kit this year Ali! I was just wondering if you could give any hints as to some of the prices? (main kit, mini kit, albums) I have a pretty tight budget this year. Since we will be charged when we place our order, and I fear that things may sell out quickly, I would love to know before hand if I have allocated enough for what I would like to purchase. Thanks!

The prices will be the same as last year: main kit $49.99 / mini kits $19.99 / albums $19.99 / stamp sets $15.99 and then there will be other things available in a range of prices.

Will there be a 4x6 album as well as a 6x8 album this year? Or are all the albums one size?

    3. AliEdwards says…
      08/29/2016

Yes - there will be a 4x6 (in addition to 3, 6x8 albums).

SEVEN new stamp sets!!! Yeah for new stamp sets: but seven? How will I choose from seven new stamp sets ;)? Thanks Ali for your creativity.
I was wondering tough about some older stamp sets (even from technique tuesday, studio AE): they are getting really yellow: is there anything to avoid this (I am putting them away in a closet, but then I don't use them anymore)? Is this going to make the stamps break or become useless any other way?

Hi Ali, social media has gone into a bit of a meltdown with everyone stressing out about pre sale dates and missing out. I'm getting way too stressed about the whole process - it should be fun not stressful! :) I'm here in Australia - so I'll be having a very early Saturday morning (1.00am) when the presale starts :) So think of all us Aussies being up super early or late (depending which way you look at it!) to order our DD goodies. Can't wait to see the full reveal of all the kits and albums. Definitely keen on the alumni class. Take care and hope you are feeling better. Natasha

Our hope is that we have ordered enough to get closer to meeting the demand this year without making irresponsible business decisions (excessive ordering). Don't let it be stressful!

I'm going to share a video on Thursday that shows some of my favorite pieces from the mini kits. It's likely I will be pulling things from Pam and Liz's kits - along with a few things from the others.

The stamp set will be the same as it was last year for that class (since in the classroom I did use it as part of the idea section). My plan is to offer some kind of alumni discount for those who want to participate again with a new video added sharing a walk-through of my 2015 album.

I'm so excited for the full reveal. I wish the full reveal was the day before ordering so you can decide what you would like to purchase without being rushed and then disappointed when things sell out. One of my favorite days is in October when the DD kits arrive in the mail. Thanks for making the holidays a little more special.

I'm so very excited for Thursday. I don't think I saw it anywhere but do the other mini kits have some kind of number set for labeling days like the main kit does? I really liked the variety of different numbering styles most of the mini's had last year.

Jasmine's kit has numbers and Liz's has some that are part of an alpha set. My main kit has chipboard numbers. There's also a stamp set that is all about numbers :).

Do any of the kits have much of a religious theme? I try to keep Christmas centered around what we're celebrating and I really appreciate those references as opposed to an abundance of snowflakes and hot chocolate mugs.

    1. AliEdwards says…
      08/30/2016

No of these kits have an overtly religious theme. That's something we might consider for the future. Most of these kits are generic in a way that allows you to add the stories that are most important to you rather than us directing you one way or another. I think you will have a better sense of that when the full kits are revealed.

I'm not looking for anything too overt, but I would really covet some scripted "what child is this", "noel" or hand drawn mangers thrown in the mix. ;]

Hi alitawings, I have a few of pages from last year's kit that have some scripted biblical quotes that are lovely -- I have 2 of each so would be happy to send you a couple if you would like?
