Yesterday & Today Begins In One Week & A Giveaway

YT_giveaway

In just one week my new workshop begins at Big Picture Scrapbooking: Yesterday & Today.

It's hard to believe it is almost finally here.

And in case you didn't know already, you're invited to join me.

Here's what I want you to know if you are still considering embarking on this journey with me:

• With a focus on the stories from yesterday & the stories from today, this class is really an in-depth look at the way I scrapbook.

• Each week (on Thursdays) you will receive an email inviting you to the classroom where a video presentation will be waiting for you to access on your own time (you do not need to be online at a certain time - it's just one of the awesome things about Big Picture's classroom set-up). These video presentations are not just a 5-15 minute talk about the subject and the layout - so far they are averaging around an hour. During that hour my goal is to inspire you to take a look at the way in which you scrapbook and encourage you to focus on the things that matter most to you within the framework of the theme for that week.

• In addition to the video presentations there are weekly video tutorials showing my processes for concepts and techniques using Photoshop Elements.

• For those of you, like me, who like to actually read the weekly content there will be a color PDF download detailing the concepts and information covered in the video presentation (as well as a how-to for the weekly project).

• Each week there will be a digital element download and a digital layered template (all new). The digital elements will be used as printables (hybrid elements) on the weekly layout and the layered template will match the paper layout I create for each week.

• Even if you will be away for a time during the class you will still have access to the materials.

• The class will have it's own message board & gallery for sharing and communicating with one another (including me).

• This workshop is a chance for you to:

  1. investigate your past through words + photos

  2. do something meaningful with older photos if you have them (or to tell those stories that have meaning even if you don't possess the photos)

  3. tell your own personal stories of success + challenge + growth

  4. work on embracing imperfection & going with the flow

  5. celebrate your everyday life + make sure you are capturing stories that are meaningful to you today

  6. connect with other people who care deeply about collecting + celebrating the stories of their lives

• The cost for this 13 week class is $99.

I am really, really excited for this workshop to get underway.

I hope to see you there.

Want to know more? Additional details, an audio introduction, and registration can be found here. Registration will close on October 7.

I want to document the amazing relationship I had with my great grandmother; her stories she told, the time we spent together, what her house looked like, her childhood... I miss her terribly and wish my children could have enjoyed her company.

I want to be able to look at my life as I lived it in my 20's and now in my 30's, and also my mom's life at the same time. I want to see the parallels and the differences in the choices we made. I love finding out more as I talk to my mom now that I'm older. My sister is in her twenties now, and it will be interesting to have three stories to put together and see what is the same and what is different in generations of the same family. It's a HUGE project, but I'm thinking about it more and more.

I'd like to create a scrapbook and a memoir for my paternal ancestors. I am much closer to my mom's family but I am starting to have more of a relationship with my Dad's family. Recently I've been given some family artifacts and told stories that I would like to document creatively! I would LOVE to take your class Ali! You inspire me every day!

I would like to document the early days of my 4-H sheep project, how my dad helped me build the pens, made sure I took care of my animals, and how my mom would be right in the middle of our show preparations even though it always happened on mother's day. She was always a good sport about being stuck with smelly sheep instead of being pampered on her big day.

I would like to explore the progression of my family. My parents adopted me when I was 1 month old. They had suffered through 14 years of miscarriages. The day the social worker brought me home, was the same day they found out that they were pregnant with my sister. We are 8 months apart. It has made for interesting family dynamics.

Wow, would I love to win this! I have a neurological disease that has caused me to be progressively more disabled, and it is one of the only topics I've never scrapped.

I am one of five children. 4 girls and 1 boy. My mom was always sewing, crocheting or just doing crafts in general. I remember before every holiday, my mom and all of us would go to a long gone store-Weindrops and pick a pattern and the material we wanted for the holiday. My mom was/is a procrastinator so the night before the big days, we would try on our dresses for the final fitting and we always had to be careful of the pins still in the fabric. A lot of times, we would all wear the same dress, same fabric and she would make my brother pants and vests that matched us. I have lots of photos of us standing in front of the house or by the tree all dressed in homemade, matching clothes. I never want to forget those days of watching her sew for hours and her letting me play in her buttons.

I am so bad at journaling and putting words to photographs. There are so many things that I've gone through that although minor in the grand scheme of things really helped me become who I am today.
I would like to document my relationship with my mom, my scare with breast cancer, things I've learned, and my new path to find God and his purpose for my life.
    Thanks!!

Pretty personal, but ... my very unconventional (and definitely disfunctional) childhood, which involved my dad being married to two women at the same time. (We are not mormon.) Not your typical story, but definitely a part of me, and there was a lot of love, too. Can't forget that.
