Week in the Life : Tuesday Photos + Words (and a workshop giveaway)

Just a note that Stacy Julian organized a really cool project encouraging everyone to give ourselves the gift of the present moment. This is precisely what we are doing with this week in the life journey. Check out her blog today.

week in the life : reading homework by you.

Went with the simple list idea again - not as detailed as day one, but still much more than I would ever do without this project.

1. Super happy Simon wake-up this morning. He came into our room around 2am. I stayed for a bit and then went to his bed (which happens to be a bit more comfortable because of a firmer mattress). He joined me at about 5:45am just before the alarm went off at 6am.
2. Breakfast routine same as Monday: bagel + cream cheese for Simon, cereal for Chris, and me, I have to wait a bit for my thyroid medication. I usually eat after Simon leaves for school.
3. Every morning that Simon is cheerful I am so very thankful.
4. Working on a project for Australian Creating Keepsakes.
5. Listening to OPB.
6. Head out to the Farmer’s Market. Pick up spinach, carrots, celery, red onion, raspberries, and flowers. Grab a toasted bagel from Bagel Sphere.
7. Ship package to Australia.
8. Look up some recipes at www.allrecipes.com. Do a bit of meal planning for the week.
9. Text Chris to pick up a couple things at the grocery store.
10. Make German Apple Cake + eat hummus and pita chips for lunch.
11. Clean up kitchen.
12. Move laundry around.
13. Back to work. Internet. Emails.
14. Talk to Mom on the phone. Ask her about how to get the cake out of the bundt pan.
15. Totally bummed that Mothering.com message board has been down today.
16. Simon comes home on the bus.
17. We check out his Communication Notebook. Looks good. He brought home the same library book he brought home almost every trip last year.
18. On comes the Darth Vader costume and Star Wars video.
19. Chris talks on the phone. Mom reads about cloth diapers.
20. I take a little nap.
21. Dinner is tostadas (Chris cooks). Dessert is the German Apple Cake.
22. Simon does his math homework (no complaints tonight) at the table and then puts on his PJ’s.
23. Reading homework on the couch.
24. Family light saber battle.
25. Simon in bed. Read Green Eggs + Ham.
26. Back to work for a bit.
27. Watch Tivo’d John Stewart.

This week I am excited to give away a spot in Kolette Hall's Giving Well (In 2-hours or Less) online workshop at Big Picture Scrapbooking.

Kolette is one of my favorite people and happens to be having a baby right around the same time as me next year. She is a fabulous product designer and instructor who really keeps the emphasis on things being meaningful and coming from the heart.

Here's the basics of Giving Well:

Gift-giving is an art. From the gift tag and wrapping paper to what's inside the package, you are saying something when you give a gift. Back by popular demand, Kolette Hall has designed a fresh round of fabulous, manageable gift ideas for the holiday season and all year long. This class is literally packed with everything you need to give well for the holidays or any special event all year long - and Kolette has designed every idea you will see in this class!

Every other day, you will receive a new idea for "Giving Well (still in 2-hours or less!)." True to form, Kolette has also included her exclusive downloadable artwork to help you create the perfect gifts, holiday cards and gift tags. As those of you who joined us last year for Giving Well know, you will be amazed with what you get in just four weeks of class time.

You asked for it, so we're starting class a month earlier than last year to make sure you have plenty of time to get those projects done for the holidays! Whether you are mass producing one gift idea or choosing to craft a different gift for each person on your list, you'll get tons of ideas for creating personalized gifts in less than two hours. Come join Kolette as she guides you in your new art form: the art of Giving Well.

You can read all the details about this online workshop here. It runs October 9 through November 5th. While you are there you can also check out her year long workshop for 2009: A Life Well Crafted.

To be entered leave a comment below and let us know if you have started planning for the upcoming holiday season yet. Comment section will be closed at 5pm today (Wednesday) and the winner announced shortly after.

I've definitely started thinking about it. With a new job after some unemployment, things are definitely still going to be tight. Usually I alleviate by making some gifts. (Sewing, scrapbooking, a little crafting) but I have a one month old who is planning on messing up that plan. . .So I'm really trying to use some creative thinking.

I've started thinking about my cards, but that's it. I asked my husband the other day what he wanted, but he just said nothing like always. I need ideas!

I started the day after Christmas 2007. I craft a lot and can offer it at really reasonable prices during holiday boutiques by discounted products used. ALWAYS looking for a new idea!
    Thanks for the chance.

I too have already started my holiday planning. I have planned my gifts, started making some of them, and started on some homemade decorations. I try to keep things pretty simple though and focus on family and fun and less on stress.

Oh, goodness, I am such a procrastinator! I have not even come close to thinking about it. I have barely started thinking about my sweet daughter's 5th bday and it is in 2 weeks!! LOL!

I haven't even thought about holiday stuff yet. (I know the year is quickly passing, but I can barely keep up with week in the life stuff!)
I would love to do more homemade gifts this year--especially since our home was just broken into last week. They stole some electronics (laptops, iPod, Xbox, etc.). The whole experience made me realize again how stuff is just that...stuff. The things that are most valuable are the heartfelt gifts and memories wrapped in love.
Guess that means I need to get started thinking about Christmas stuff now...

thanks for the project inspiration, I'm having a blast. And no, I haven't started anything for the holidays. I still have a birthday and 2 Halloween costumes to figure out. Even if I don't win this, I'd really be interested in signing up for this class. I LOVE coming up with meaningful gifts and packaging them perfectly. Thanks for the link!

I've purchased 3 Christmas gifts alreaady! But unfortunately, I have not purchased my husband any sort of gift yet for our 25th anniversary, which is coming up at the end of this month. So if Kolette has any scathingly brilliant ideas for something I could make to give to my adorable, brilliant, caring, loving husband of 25 years, I would be grateful to hear them, lol.

    Hi Ali,
Christmas planning has been going through my head. I would love to make a book like you did last year and plan on doing this year. As soon as our family fall activities come to an end, I can really start thinking about the holidays.

I usually don't do any xmas shopping until last minute ( i know- INSANE! lol)I may just end up making mini books for gifts instead :)...and b/c of the temp move back to my hometown until the permanent move to Portland, possibly by the end of the year- I won't really be able to do any decorating for the holidays :( Then in Dec we will be heading for hawaii for hopefully 2 weeks and home just a few days before Xmas. GOing to be strange if we end up not getting a tree or decorating this year... Thanks for posting your week of pics(and doing this project!!)- love seeing all the cool stuff and ideas :) I am hoping to meet you at CKC Seattle next month -if you still end up going? Anyways, have a good day! :)

I am loving this project...learning a lot about me and my family.
For the holidays, I have started thinking about my cards and gift tags. Because of crazy postage rates, I made simple cards last year and my tags were lifted from Jcrew's gift tags, so also quite simple.
This year might be the same type of low-key simplicity...

I have definitely been working on my Christmas planning as I've been making my Christmas cards and have also been thinking about simplifying the entire Holiday process. So, yes, the Christmas/Holiday planning is in the back of my mind.
The class looks very interesting - something I would absolutely love!

I'm trying to do this project and that moment in your life has inspired me further!

I could really use this class. I have decided to get back to the REAL meaning of Christmas this year. Part of this is giving a well thought-out personal gift. This class sounds perfect to help with that.

I struggle every year with enjoying Christmas-I used to love it but when you become an adult it becomes so complicated. Last year I wrote a letter to myself on Christmas Eve, giving myself advice for the following year. I've pulled it out and am trying to get started on gift ideas/shopping as well as gathering decorating ideas. I'm trying to get ahead start and yet I don't want to rush fall, my favorite time of year. I don't want it to be absorbed into Christmas. Trying to find balance.

Oooh am I too late? not sure of time difference her in blighty. I am having an emphasis on homemade this year. I have started out well, lovely piece of pottery with some homemade felt strawberries to match for my Mum, a scrapped message board for my mother-in-law (thank you Heidi Swapp for the idea:)) Cushions and bags for my nieces bedrooms but that is where I have stuck, so some more ideas would be fantastic. Love the project you are doing, think I might come on board next week. Fingers crossed

I've thought about stamping our Holiday cards and played around, but decided it was too time consuming. I've purchased a few gifts. That's it... I will start a Daily Countdown to Christmas album to add to during the Holidays~I love what you did last year!

Hmmm...planning for the holidays....well, I've planned to start planning for the holidays, but I haven't actually gotten around to it yet! How's that for real life?! I need to go pull out my holiday planning notebook and start thinking through gifts, baking, etc. Maybe I'll do that yet today.
