Get It Scrapped is giving away one spot in Pattie Knox's "More Mad Digital Skillz" online workshop.

Pattie Knox’s favorite part of digital scrapbooking is learning new techniques for creating realistic--as in “I can’t believe that’s not paper!”--layouts. In “More Mad Digital Skillz,” you’ll learn how to create torn edges on your photos and papers, how to insert photos into type, Pattie’s method for digital dry embossing, and much more about making your own brushes, working with custom shapes, and creating depth and interest with texture. Each lesson is accompanied by beautiful digital products from the talented artists at Designer Digitals—including Ali Edwards! Class starts May 25th at Get It Scrapped!

I love to draw inspiration from a popular quote (my quote book is falling apart now). But sometimes reading other's ideas on the common thread subject, leads me to my words describing the event or why I decided to include this as an important memory for my family.

I think one of the best tips is to write the story down any way you can. You won't forget the picture but YOU WILL FORGET some of the story. Even if your journaling doesn't look good, even if it is just a sticky note on the page, you'll have it. I think that's why people like blogs-it's written down! Sometimes there isn't a picture to trigger your memory.

I type up a rough form of journaling in "notepad" as soon as I've downloaded my photos. I then save these "notes" in the same file as the photos.
I find that by doing it like this, I have everything in the moment - not only the who, what, when, where and why, but my emotions and feelings etc.
When I'm ready to scrap the photos, I've got everything on hand in the one place :)

I do my best journaling at the computer. When I finish a page, I sit down and journal on the computer. Something about being able to type faster than I can write makes the thoughts flow freer. I may end up handwriting the journaling or printing for the layout.

My best tip is to try to write the journaling "right now" so you won't it. Keep a notebook with you at all times!

whenever something I want to remember happens I jot it down on any random piece of paper on hand. I stick it in a jar and when I need journaling I just pull one out [if it doesn't really fit the page I get the enjoyment of reading past experiences and getting a good smile/laugh/warm fuzzy feeling]. I tried keeping a notebook/idea journal, but it just didn't work for me. I kept jotting things down on bits that were on hand [the back of a receipt for example]. The jar works much better for me.

One of my favorite journaling entries was when I asked my 5 year old to "tell me what happened". I transcribed his story word for word, even the grammatical mistakes (He always says "go-ed" instead of "went"!) and it is so sweet. I also love to get my kids handwriting on the pages when I can! Simple things, but I think they add alot to a layout!

Since I have a blog, I usually take excerpts from it and put it in my journals. And, there are just some quips, from my girls, that I remember by heart.

I'd have to say that my best journaling tip is to write it down when I think of something, be it a story, or a technique or something new I'd like to try. Then I try to file them all and pull from them when I'm creating my pages.

the best tip i can think of is to get itwritten ASAP. you can always rewrite it how you want or type it up later. but make sure it all gets written down as soon as possible so nothing gets forgotten.

My best tip is to write/journal about an event as soon as possible (even if I don't make a scrapbook page) while it is fresh in my mind. Thank you for the chance to win wonderful prizes!

I always tell people to write as if you were sitting right next to the person as they looked through your album...what do you want them to know about your photos. I tend to write in my real voice...slang and words of the moment and all...makes it more me, which is an important thing I want to include in my books!

I try to journal right away or it gets away from me....If I am doing personal journaling, I put it under a group of flippy-like photos (i.e. photos that are stacked on top of each other and can be flipped!). However, if it is just general stuff, I put it out there and think "I hope this doesn't sound hokey!!! Great ideas so far!!!!

When I scrapbook, I want to tell the whole story! This can somewhat be done in the photos, but the journaling plays the biggest role (IMHO). As a Mama of four little ones, I take alot of photos and try my very best to get them all in their albums. By doing this, I am limited on my space, so I usually "hide" my journaling and make it interactive for easier viewing. My kiddos love this!!!

I guess my best tip would be to 'just do it.' Don't worry if it's not Pulitzer Prize worthy - it just needs to record the memory. If you wait until the perfect wording comes to mind, you may never do it and that memory is lost forever. I learned from experience on that one!

Once I choose the photos I want to use for a layout I sit and brainstorm all the words that come to mind in remembering the moments they were taken in. Sometimes for some events I jot down words in a journal so I will remember the event in detail when I go to order prints to scrapbook it. I also upload photos to my flickr.com account often - I title them and sometimes leave a description so I will have details for when I scrapbook to jog my memory.

I have found that I journal better when I let go of the "rules"...I was an English major & it has taken me years to just write and not worry about all the grammatical things! Sounds funny, but it has been very liberating. I also like to play around with the journaling & how I break it up to put it on the page.

My favorie story-telling tip when scrapbooking for my daughter is to imagine that I am telling my journaling as a bedtime story. She loves to hear me tell stories of things I did when I was growing up and the more dramatic I can make it, the more she likes it!

My best journaling/writing/story-telling tip: document it as you think about it so you don't forget it - this could be on a piece of paper or by using the audio function on the camera.

Write it down before you start writing it on the page. It is really hard to fix the mistake after it's on the page ;0)

I revert back to grad school when we learned the bubble diagram method--start with the main event and draw cirlces (bubble's) all around the main event with highlights. Even if it's a few words, you'll have something down--better than nothing! Works great when in a hurry!

Write things down as you think of them. If you leave it until later, you'll forget about it. I always carry a small notebook in my handbag for those little moments when I'm out and about.

Write it down, write it down, write it down! In a journal, on a notepad in your purse, on your blog, even on a little scrap of paper. Because chances are if you don't it will be forgotten. I have to constantly remind myself to do this. The most important place I keep a notebook is on my beside table. I always have ideas and thoughts while I'm falling asleep and if I don't write them down they are always gone in the morning.
