Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway : Get It Scrapped, Transparent Touches, & Blue Moon Scrapbooking
Get It Scrapped is giving away one spot in Pattie Knox's "More Mad Digital Skillz" online workshop.
Pattie Knox’s favorite part of digital scrapbooking is learning new techniques for creating realistic--as in “I can’t believe that’s not paper!”--layouts. In “More Mad Digital Skillz,” you’ll learn how to create torn edges on your photos and papers, how to insert photos into type, Pattie’s method for digital dry embossing, and much more about making your own brushes, working with custom shapes, and creating depth and interest with texture. Each lesson is accompanied by beautiful digital products from the talented artists at Designer Digitals—including Ali Edwards! Class starts May 25th at Get It Scrapped!

Wow I would love to win, especially since it's my birthday and I'm stuck at work and would much rather be scrapbook shopping!
I think the most important thing is to be authentic in what you say... keep a journal in your bag, and write your thoughts as they occur, rather than making something up later that can sometimes sound contrived...
Thanks!

My best tip is to forget how much I hate my handwriting and to concentrate on telling the story. My handwriting is a part of who I am and that is worth preserving along with the story.

Journaling is all about writing honestly from the heart. If I write to make it sound good to those I anticipate will read it in the future, it may not be my true self. Sometimes its fun to write exactly how you speak... hopefully others will pick up on my goofy, fun-loving spirit without me having to try to sound like I'm talking to them.
Plus, writing soon after an event helps keep the joy in the situation.

Hmmmmmm...my best storytelling technique...being an emotional scrapbooker, I usually like my photos to tell most of the "story" and I just add a few words to get the viewers attention. Occasionally, there is more to tell than meets the eye...this is when I create "secret" pockets to tell the WHOLE story. This way the "long version, lol" is hidden for those who want to read it...kind of like a scavenger hunt of sorts.

my best tip it to keep a running list of your titles and ideas. I keep mine on a list in my phone, its great when i get stuck in ruts!

I just try to keep it simple. I use my own handwriting - even though I don't love it - because it's quick and easy. If I wait for the time to type my journalling I never get to it (and I have a stack of waiting-to-be-journalled pages to prove it!). And the best part - the more I use my own handwriting, the better it gets and the more content I am with the outcomes!
Great giveaways this week Ali!

Who, what, when, where, how & why. This is what future generations & your family/friends are the most interested in learning. Leave this info off a page & show people - it will be the first things they ask. Real life information.

I journal when I look at the photos I am about to scrap. I spend the time remembering...feelings, moments, particulars...etc...then I scrap!!! That is probably why it takes so long to get everything done....all that remembering!!!

I plan my journaling while I plan my page. Often I have something in mind like song lyrics or a catchy title and I go from there. I also use journal entries from my blog to jump start my journaling...

I have two tips today. The first is a stash of little notebooks in the kitchen, scrapspace, car and purse/diaper bag to jot down details, words uttered etc. I also keep a stack of post-its handy when I first review a stack of prints. It is amazing what ideas/details come to mind when the images are in my hands. I jot down topics, titles, journal notes, LO sketches, patt pater ideas etc and stick it to the back of the appropriate group of photos.

I write notes on the family wall calendar every day. Even if there is no picture to accompany the calendar note, I can still journal about it later. As a bonus, I get at least thirty journal topics every month. It also leads to family conversation when someone wants to know more detail about the note.

My tip would be to listen. Little stories can be heard if you just take a step back and listen to what is going on. I keep a notebook in my purse for just this idea.

I used to think that journaling always had to about the "perfect" day or event. Then I read a life-journal from my grandma. I learned so much about her - hardships, good days, bad days, and everything in between. I appreciated that honesty so much more, and felt that I really got to know her. Now when I journal, I think to myself "What will people really want to know about these pictures?", and that is what I write.

I keep 3 small books of funny stories and quotes of family members to help jog my memory when I sit down to scrapbook. I keep one in the kitchen, one in the car, and one at work. It helps me to remember the stories that I want my children to remember.

Write down your feelings, thoughts and emotions while they are raw. Don't worry about scrapping the page-just get the journalling down. My best journalling is when I have done this. It is really interesting to note how ones perspective changes over time and reading back over my thoughts often highlights for me alot of personal growth.
It is so easy to say 'I must get this down or scrap this moment' and then forget to, or the moment passes. When my daughter was diagnosed at birth with a life shortening genetic condition, I had a rollercoaster of emotions. For a long time, I couldn't bear to write about it and now I wish I had, mostly because the perspective has changed. I will never forget those feelings but I wish I had recorded them as they were in that very moment.

I write down thoughts/stories on scraps of paper and put it with the pictures so that I can jog my memory when its time to scrap those pictures!

I make notes on my calendar for short things. For longer things, I put sticky notes on the back of the current months page. For even longer stories, I end up sharing those on our blog, so I just copy and paste from there.
I need all the help I can get remembering the little details!

I try to always write down my thoughts after an event if I snapped pictures. This helps when I go back later and want to journal about that event.

My best tip is journal like your talking, I hardly do a LO without journalling on it and most the time its my voice you hear coming off the paper. It doesn't matter how long or short it is, along as it says what you want it to say!

Write the story of an event as soon as you can, even if you won't be scrapping it for months. The sooner you write the story, the more details you remember and the more feelings are in the memories as you can clearly relive the moment.

i usually try to write like i am talking. just a stream of thoughts, whatever they may be. kind of like i am thinking out loud. i don't worry about proper grammar (but i do like to make sure i spell words correctly).
