PEEK AT THE PROCESS
| I knew three things for sure when I started the creative process for the layout featured above:

1. I wanted to use the photo of Simon reading in the tree and I wanted it to be bigger than 4x6.
2. I wanted to use the July 2010 stamp set.
3. I wanted to use elements from the Studio Calico September 2010 kit.

I started by cutting out the strip of numbers from the Jenni Bowlin pattern paper. At this point in the process I wasn't too sure what the end layout design was going to look like but I had a general idea to use that number strip as an anchor along the bottom of the main content.

After stamping the Capture Life rectangle above on the cream cardstock I decided to repeat that basic shape using pattern papers (sometimes I just stamp and go for it). I love the technique of repetition.

To give the design a bit of variety I mixed up the height of the rectangles.

Each of the pattern paper rectangles was adhered to the cream cardstock. I added a bit of stitching around two of them. These rectangles would make great homes for additional embellishments if you were creating a page similar to this and wanted to add more.

As you might notice I ended up cutting out this whole area with the cream cardstock background and adhering it to white cardstock.

My initial plan was to have the chipboard title just along the top. I ended up adding "& Read A Book" towards the end of the process. Because that all happened at the end I trimmed some white cardstock off the top to make the margins between the edge of the chipboard letters and the cardstock even.

To complete the page I adhered it to the dark navy lined pattern paper and added zig zag stitching and a little bit of journaling.

I'd love to see a stamp set filled with nice birthday sentiments that could be used on the inside of cards. I've been looking for one and can't find a set filled with nice sentiments.

Great stamps! Would you consider doing some "play" themed stamps. Some works that come to mind: build, create, colo(u)r,cut, glue, imagine, invent, race, run, jump, soar etc. They would be great for kid layouts but also relevant to adults in many cases.

Ali, this new club is awesome! I love your style, and as basic as it sounds... I would love to see a birthday themed set from you. Scrapbooking birthday pictures can get so boring year after year, and I would love too add your style to my pages and cards.

This layout brings back such great memories of my childhood. We had a very tall magnolia tree in our front yard that was my refuge when I needed an escape from the chaos of my very large family. It had the perfect spot for sitting and reading. There were even a couple of branches that grew somewhat parallel to each other allowing me to balance my portable record player on them and listen to my 45's! People walking down the sidewalk would always stop and try to figure out where the music was coming from, which always made me giggle.

As for new stamp themes, I'm liking all the ones already suggested!

    Hi Ali,
What wonderful stamps! It is actually hard for me to make a recommendation, because you do a good job being all encompassing with your products. Maybe something for school themed layouts?
    Have a great weekend.

I'd love to see a date set that went beyond 2010 and covered the next decade or something with compass/map symbols/directions - road less traveled/forks in the road, etc.
