Every summer we take a backpacking and camping trip in yellowstone. I focus on taking beautiful pictures and my fiancee loves to fish. It's a beautiful place, and we both enjoy it so very much.

We always go back to the church parking lot next to our first house {we used to rent, the house before we even had kids} to watch the fireworks.

We spend the day with our next door neighbors grilling out, talking, watching all the kids play, and having fun. Then when it gets dark the guys shoot off a ton of fireworks and it's awesome to watch!

My favorite tradition may not be continued much longer with the budget cuts in CA... My family has been camping for a week or two every year (almost every time in August) for 25 years at Patrick's Point State Park on the Northern CA coast. It's soooo beautiful there - the redwoods, right on the coast with a beautiful 2.5 mile rim trail you can hike. So peaceful and cool (often foggy in summer) compared to the 100 degree weather we have in August in the Sacramento area!

My children have started an annual neighborhood parade on the morning of July 4th. We purchase some decorations, deliver flyers, make cookies to hand out (instead of throwing candy!) and invite all the neighborhood kids to come decorate their bikes, scooters, etc. Last year we had quite a turnout and although a few people just come out front to watch us pass by, most of the neighborhood ended up joining the parade so it just grew and grew as we walked along! We are already making plans for this year.
