an end + a beginning + my word

In between working on projects, still battling this ear infection/cold, getting ready for tonight's festivities, drinking coffee, etc, I cleared off the boards above my computer. I do this every so often and today seemed like a pretty good day to invite something new. I am also changing things up by adding some clipboards on the other wall next to my desk for project organization (inspired by Lotta Jansdotter's studio tour).

A fresh start. A new beginning.

I took everything down, put the things worth keeping in an inspiration notebook, and am now ready for new images, new words, new things to motivate + inspire + help me grow in 2008.

For me, in 2008, I am looking forward to getting to the heart of the matter - whatever that is. Clearing away excesses. Focusing on the most important things and not worrying about the rest. Taking a deep breath and beginning one foot in front of the other.

My word for 2008: vitality.

Vitality is the state of being strong and active; energy. Physically. Mentally. Spiritually. Creatively.

Here's to moving forward. To fullness of life. To you and yours.

If you have decided on a word for the year I would love to read what it is - feel free to share in the comments.

Also: Loved this post over at Photojojo on Photo Resolutions. And I think this is the year I will do a 365 project.

I can't really come up with one word but I have three that are intertwined and have to be together:
    live, laugh, love!!
I want to live a life of a person who is loved by God and shows Gods love to those around me. I want to laugh and have fun and enjoy life! I want to love my family and friends and count my blessings daily!!
Thanks for the inspiration you give us!

    Yes, balance!
After reviewing, thinking, pondering, and even chatting with my hubby about it. Balance.
He said he wants to use it too, he said he wants all 4 of us to adopt balance as our family word for this year, as it pertains to each of us.

You have so many comments! I'm pretty sure reading your blog is what put this whole "word" idea in my head months ago. I've thought and thought about it and played around with words for some time. It was this past Christmas season that clearly indicated the word I need to focus on in 2008: SIMPLIFY. I noticed that lots of other readers have chosen the same word. I have allowed too many unimportant things interfer with the important things. I want to play on the floor with my daughter. I want to be at home with my family in the evenings. I want time to MAKE things. I want to declutter my home. I want things to be simple. So, SIMPLIFY is my word.
I've really enjoyed reading the words other people have chosen! Thanks for opening up the doors for our responses!

My one little word is going to be TIME. Make more TIME. Use my TIME more efficiently. Give away my TIME. Have more me TIME. Realise that TIME passes quickly. Live in the present TIME. Remember good TIMES and anticipate new TIMES. Remember TIME.

I love that I get to pick a new word. My word for last year was create and I feel like I really kept that word in my head all year long. So, this year my word is RESOLVE. I am one of those people that over thinks every decision. So this year I will be firm and decisive. Love your word too.

I love this idea! Strive would be my word for a great 2008 (A Christian who strives to live the way God intended us to; strives for peace and love; strives to see multiple unfinished projects to completion, including a true well rounded health program for our family).
    Thanks for the inspiration!

Ali - my word for 2008 is going to be LOVE. Wikipedia quotes a definition, "to love is to act intentionally, in sympathetic response to others (including God), to promote overall well-being." We'll see what 2008 has to teach me about Love.

I was pleasantly surprised to read your post today and inspiration for Word of the Year. I forgot about it.
Upon reflection I realized how much my word became part of my year last year.
My word this year is ACCEPTANCE.
Accepting where I am headed. It's wonderful, scary and at times a lot of work.
But it's mine and I am going to own it.
    Thanks Ali,
    Sam

My word for 2008 is ENRICH.
I find I get busy in my daily life with work, chores and responsibilities that I don't always find the time to do the things that I want to do. This year I'm taking the time and the word ENRICH will remind me to do just that.
I always focus on my 6 year old daughter and enrich her life. This year I want to ENRICH my life too!
    Thanks for the inspiration!

    My word is Begin.
It comes from that quote you had a while back. "A year from now you may wish you had started today." I want to start doing what I want to be doing. Begin.

I wasn't even sure if I was going to be able to settle on a single word, but last night, just before midnight, as I looked back and looked ahead, something clicked -- my word is PERSPECTIVE.

one little word - i'm not done with last year's word! it was 'believe' and it encompased all that i felt. this year i am going with COMPLETE! complete a task, complete a project, complete my reorganization goals, complete each day as if it were a gift! I am also getting excess out!!! it began in 2007 with a new life plan of health, eating correctly, etc. in 2008 i hope to complete the first part of that journey and contintue on. and so with that i complete the reading of my emails (i was 3 days off the computer) and need to complete my day by going to bed!
thanks, ali, for all the inspiration and motivation you feed us! may 2008 be filled with only good health, prosperity, and only the best of memories!!

I decided on my word after reading your entry about it. Its going to be "ACTIVE." Both in terms of getting fitter/exercising and just always doing something in general. Rather than my usual fall asleep in front of the TV, even if its just writing a letter or scrapping while watching TV, or getting out for a walk when its dry or doing housework. It will be an improvement in so many different ways.. Heres hoping I can make it stick :) Happy New Year!

This is number "n" post, after so many I do not hope to be too original, but I still participate because I greatly appreciate every of your entries, I believe in your projects and I had to let you know. My word for the year is FLOW. It has to do with patience, with acceptation, with faith, with tolerance. I want to adopt an attitude that would allow the natural energy of people and things to be in harmony, because everything settles down the way it is intended to be, or so it seems to me. The very best for all!
