Saying Goodbye To Studio A

Ck
The December issue of Creating Keepsakes is the last issue for my monthly Studio A column.

Studio A debuted back in January 2006 (the first theme was scrapbooking your intentions). Each month since then I have been given the opportunity to create pages & projects that were interesting & inspiring to me at the time. Over the years CK gave me a ton of freedom to decide my own content/topics and allowed me to find & maintain my own voice in the pages of the magazine. For that gift I am extremely grateful.

I am also especially thankful to my column editor Lori Fairbanks who was always able to take what I had written and make it flow and fit the space available.

The decision to end the column was mutual; the editors and I both felt like it was time for a number of reasons. I am very thankful to CK for the opportunity and the experience. I am currently working with the magazine to gain access to the Studio A PDF's to add to the initial archive located here. I will let you know when those files are updated.

Will you still see my pages & projects in Creating Keepsakes? At this time, no (you may potentially see some feature articles from me in the future but nothing is currently scheduled).

Right now I am making plans for what's next for me. I will continue blogging. I will continue designing products for Designer Digitals and Technique Tuesday. I hope to do more online education. I will continue telling my stories and making stuff. I am looking forward to moving forward.

I am also very thankful for all of you who have read my column over the last few years and have shared your own stories with me. I love what I do and am so grateful that I get to share my passion for telling stories creatively with photos & words.

Sad to hear you won't be a regular part of the magazine. But you are well known in the industry and I have no doubt you will continue to have a huge presence and influence. Can't wait to see what's next for you. Thank you for your blog. It is one of my favorites.

Like most people have said here, the only reason I subscribed to CK was because of your work. Now I don't know what I have to look forward to when I receive my magazine : / But I'm definitely looking forward to your next venture. As always, everything happens for a reason, and I'm sure whatever's next for you is going to be an awesome one : )

I am so sorry to see your column go! I do think the magazine has declined in quality ever since Tracy White left, but your column and and Becky Higgins' sketches kept me reading. Now that both of you have left, I can't see myself puchasing CK again. Thank goodness for blogging! Best of luck to you -- you deserve it!

I am also really enjoying your Yesterday & Today class, maybe some more online classes for you, I would love it !

Studio A was the first column I identified with- helping me make sense of colors, textures and shapes. It was where I learned that my memories were mine, and the portrayal of them on my scrapbook pages did not need to look a certain way or follow a certain convention. It was where I learned to love what I did for what it was - mine.
Maybe this is a sign that we all should start a move forward to our next great thing.
Thank you for guiding many of us on a journey we may have otherwise abandoned.
~ Nikki (usually quite the blog-lurker, but had to comment on this one!)

This makes me sad. Studio A has been my favorite part of getting a new CK every month. I am always inspired by your ideas and layouts and will miss my monthly fix. I wish you luck and contentment in this new chapter in your life.

When CK arrives at my doorstep, i sit down on the sofa, with a cup of coffee and directly open the pages to Studio A. It makes me sad to hear your column will end... But i also strongly believe that your decision to let go will bring something totally new and exciting your way. And your blog will continue to be an enormous inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing your work the way you do Ali!

What a total bummer. Honestly, Studio A was the reason I had a subscription. Glad you will continue to be in our lives with the blog and on-line classes. For what it is worth- I feel like I am getting so much out of Yesterday and Today. For all the ideas, content, access to some of your past layouts, and downloads, I would pay double for the next class!!
Best of luck to you Ali. Change is good.

    Hi Ali,
I just have to echo the sentiments of everyone else...yours was the first column I turned to in CK and the only column I borrowed an issue for a second time (from the library) for. But, the magazine seems to be moving in a new direction and I wondered how long you would fit each other.
Anyway, your work is brilliant and I am so enjoying Y&T and the way you are stretching me to create through your course. I look forward to seeing your future path.

Ali, your column was seriously the one that gave me the most practical layouts and designs in order to fit "the story". So sad to see it go from the magazine, but looking forward to seeing what is next for you!
