Saying Goodbye To Studio A

Ck
The December issue of Creating Keepsakes is the last issue for my monthly Studio A column.

Studio A debuted back in January 2006 (the first theme was scrapbooking your intentions). Each month since then I have been given the opportunity to create pages & projects that were interesting & inspiring to me at the time. Over the years CK gave me a ton of freedom to decide my own content/topics and allowed me to find & maintain my own voice in the pages of the magazine. For that gift I am extremely grateful.

I am also especially thankful to my column editor Lori Fairbanks who was always able to take what I had written and make it flow and fit the space available.

The decision to end the column was mutual; the editors and I both felt like it was time for a number of reasons. I am very thankful to CK for the opportunity and the experience. I am currently working with the magazine to gain access to the Studio A PDF's to add to the initial archive located here. I will let you know when those files are updated.

Will you still see my pages & projects in Creating Keepsakes? At this time, no (you may potentially see some feature articles from me in the future but nothing is currently scheduled).

Right now I am making plans for what's next for me. I will continue blogging. I will continue designing products for Designer Digitals and Technique Tuesday. I hope to do more online education. I will continue telling my stories and making stuff. I am looking forward to moving forward.

I am also very thankful for all of you who have read my column over the last few years and have shared your own stories with me. I love what I do and am so grateful that I get to share my passion for telling stories creatively with photos & words.

Wow, after reading several of the comments above, it's obvious that I am not alone. I really looked forward to receiving CK every month just so that I could turn to Studio A and get inspired. You and you alone have changed my way of scrapbooking. Before I just wanted to get the pictures down on a page and make it as pretty as possible, now I tell a story on every page and my pages are so much more meaningful. For this I will always be grateful to you. I'm glad to hear that we can still read your blog, it's one of the few sites that I frequent on a daily basis.

Another that has subscribed again because of your future articles! Now I hear Becky is bowing out too? Might have to reconsider my subscription now... Please don't take that as a threat though, Ali! Thank you for all you've shared up to this point in CK - and what you'll continue to share in the future here! Your style of scrapping & life is inspirational!

As your column was the only reason I subscribed to CK I'm sad, but happy for you as you move forward in a new direction. I'm taking your BPS class right now and loving it so I hope to be able to take more of your online classes in the future.

Yet another reason why my subscription will lapse when it is done. Looking forward to seeing you online here and at DD!

Although I totally understand the need to change things up and go in a different direction, I am so sad to hear that Studio A is coming to an end. That is my favorite part of the magazine!! Best wishes for the future and I can't wait to see what you do next!!

So sorry to see you also will no longer be in CK. You are very gracious in your exit, as I am sure the old CK was good to you. Sadly, I have no reason to keep my subscription - ironically my last issue was December. The magazine and its people are no longer keeping me inspired. Anyone who has kept up with the scrapbooking industry knows the troubles CK has had, and they can't blame it on just the economy although we know that did have some impact. I will definitely follow you here, and DD, and TT. I absolutely love your Tuesday Tutorials. I hope you keep them up. Thanks for all your cool ideas. I would also like to see the weekend ideas you used to have. But I know that just about anything you do will be successful. Thanks again, if is definitely their loss!

    so so sad.
I did let my subscription end, but your column was the one reason why I was thinking of re-subscribing. You always offered such fabulous ideas that I find myself going back to over and over again. Your column is the reason I hold onto the old issues of CK...and it won't be the same without it.
I look forward to your next venture because I know whatever it is, it will inspire me. Thank you Ali

I am selfishly disappointed. I loved that column. And like many others, the only reason I kept my subscription. But I am also glad to see you move on. I know there can only be more good things from you in the future. I hope you'll keep up with online education. I hear your Yesterday and Today class at BPS is awesome. I hope you'll do that one again!

I'm sorry to hear you're leaving CK. I'm kind of worried that with you and other contributors leaving, that this is the beginning of the end of CK. :( I wish you the best of luck and will continue to follow you here.

I understand the need to move forward, but as a CK buyer of course I'm sorry for myself! For the last few years, CK seemed to be all about pusing the creative envelope and wasn't as appealing to a scrapper like me, who focuses on photos and stories first. I only picked up CK b/c of your column and Becky's sketches.
But I confess I've started liking the mag again since they've gotten back to more multi-photo LO's and haven't been quite so "artsy" for want of a better word. But without Studio A and Becky's sketches, the mag def. loses a lot of appeal, IMO.
Regardless, I'm glad that you're happy about the ability to explore new opportunities and I look forward to what you come with!
