Saying Goodbye To Studio A

Ck
The December issue of Creating Keepsakes is the last issue for my monthly Studio A column.

Studio A debuted back in January 2006 (the first theme was scrapbooking your intentions). Each month since then I have been given the opportunity to create pages & projects that were interesting & inspiring to me at the time. Over the years CK gave me a ton of freedom to decide my own content/topics and allowed me to find & maintain my own voice in the pages of the magazine. For that gift I am extremely grateful.

I am also especially thankful to my column editor Lori Fairbanks who was always able to take what I had written and make it flow and fit the space available.

The decision to end the column was mutual; the editors and I both felt like it was time for a number of reasons. I am very thankful to CK for the opportunity and the experience. I am currently working with the magazine to gain access to the Studio A PDF's to add to the initial archive located here. I will let you know when those files are updated.

Will you still see my pages & projects in Creating Keepsakes? At this time, no (you may potentially see some feature articles from me in the future but nothing is currently scheduled).

Right now I am making plans for what's next for me. I will continue blogging. I will continue designing products for Designer Digitals and Technique Tuesday. I hope to do more online education. I will continue telling my stories and making stuff. I am looking forward to moving forward.

I am also very thankful for all of you who have read my column over the last few years and have shared your own stories with me. I love what I do and am so grateful that I get to share my passion for telling stories creatively with photos & words.

    Ali,
I started scrapbooking in 2004 in order to work on my little boy's baby book...I floundered around quite a bit as nothing I saw in magazines looked like it fit my vision of the book (my gifts are many, but somewhat lacking in the "vision" department...). Then when I saw your article in CKs Top 10 (2005, I think?), I said to myself, "Yes! Finally, someone wants to put more than one photo on the page! Someone wants to write a little bit, too! And, I can definitely groove with these designs."
Thanks for influencing how I approach this craft and "envisioning" a bit for me, too.
I'll miss that gem of a column.

Honestly, with both you and Jessica leaving, my favorite parts of the magazine are gone. Don't see a reason to keep looking at it. I love Yesterday & Today class. I'll look forward to more of that. Thanks for all your inspiration!

Well, this is a big bummer, I must say. I have enjoyed your column every issue. It was always a treat to come to your column as I flipped through the issues. I love your style and your passion for telling stories with words and photos, while keeping the focus on the *words and stories* (and not all the stuff that can come with them!). I am so glad your blog will continue and that we will still have an opportunity to see your work and share your life with you in some way.
So glad you have shared your talents with us all these years! Looking forward to seeing what's to come!
(What will we do without you, Becky Higgins and Simple Scrapbooks' Cathy Zielske??? Three of my favorite scrappers. I miss you all already...but still love your blogs!)

Not sure where my post went, so if a comment from me shows up twice on your end, my apologies! My original comment seems to have disappeared!
Anyway, so, so sad to see you go. I have loved your columns in CK and have looked forward to reading them with each issue. It was one of my favorite parts of the magazine. Thank you for showing that layouts focused on just words and photos can be not only beautiful but inspiring and meaningful, too. I have found tons of inspiration in your columns. Thank you for sharing your gift with us.
I hope that whatever adventure you find yourself embarking upon next is one that keeps your heart happy and your creative desires fulfilled. Best of luck to you!
(By the way, what will we do without you, Becky Higgins and Simple's Cathy Zielske? Three of my favorite scrappers! So glad you all have blogs we can continue to follow and share somehow in your creative projects.)
    Take care!

So sad!! I'm glad it was a mutual decision, but what a poor decision on the magazine's part!! Studio A was BY FAR the best part of the magazine each month.
Looking forward to seeing all you do in the future!!

Thank you for giving us Studio A, I looked forward to each issue that I knew was filled with great things. I had let my subscription go last year, but I did look through them at the store so I could see your article and Becky's sketches.
Thank you for continuing to inspire us here that you, without fail always give and share. Wishing you the best as you move forward.

Ali, I am so sorry that your layouts will not be in printed format every month but I hope your next phase brings you much success. I thought I would let you know that you have been a real inspiration to me. I have to say that I really hated scrapbooking at one stage because it seemed to be about lots of 'stuff' on a page. I then stumbled on your column and it really 'spoke' to me. Your style and simple elegance helped me rediscover scrapbooking and actually make peace with the art...Thank you!

    Hi Ali,
I just got the November? issue in Australia and I was looking at the cover thinking that is such a great layout! Simple, colourful, telling the essesnce of the photo, and look they have used Ali Edward's writing! Then I went to find out who the designer was and of course it was you! I love your work. I hope you enjoy your new directions, and selfishly I hope that it gives you opportunity to continue sharing with me/us! Good luck.
