Saying Goodbye To Studio A

Ck
The December issue of Creating Keepsakes is the last issue for my monthly Studio A column.

Studio A debuted back in January 2006 (the first theme was scrapbooking your intentions). Each month since then I have been given the opportunity to create pages & projects that were interesting & inspiring to me at the time. Over the years CK gave me a ton of freedom to decide my own content/topics and allowed me to find & maintain my own voice in the pages of the magazine. For that gift I am extremely grateful.

I am also especially thankful to my column editor Lori Fairbanks who was always able to take what I had written and make it flow and fit the space available.

The decision to end the column was mutual; the editors and I both felt like it was time for a number of reasons. I am very thankful to CK for the opportunity and the experience. I am currently working with the magazine to gain access to the Studio A PDF's to add to the initial archive located here. I will let you know when those files are updated.

Will you still see my pages & projects in Creating Keepsakes? At this time, no (you may potentially see some feature articles from me in the future but nothing is currently scheduled).

Right now I am making plans for what's next for me. I will continue blogging. I will continue designing products for Designer Digitals and Technique Tuesday. I hope to do more online education. I will continue telling my stories and making stuff. I am looking forward to moving forward.

I am also very thankful for all of you who have read my column over the last few years and have shared your own stories with me. I love what I do and am so grateful that I get to share my passion for telling stories creatively with photos & words.

That's too bad. Your content was really one of the main reasons that I subscribed to CK. I always felt that your creations had such a realness about them, with big heart. I will miss seeing your beautiful pages every month.

As I sit here and read this sad news with much disappointment I catch myself in mid-grump . . . What am I doing right this very second? The answer is stitching a cover for my Gratitude Album that came as a thought while doing my DD. Where did I get this inspiration? Not from the magazine but from your blog.
I too will miss terribly Studio A - and along with countless others it was the reason I still subscribed to CK. I know that your decision did not come lightly or easily. I also know that I can be inspired by you everyday via your fabulous online presence. Thank you for all you give to us. Take this time to breathe and press the pause button for awhile.
    Always,
    Trisha

Everything happens for a reason, Ali. Good, Bad or Otherwise. You've been and will continue to be an inspiration to so many people. May the road ahead lead you to wonderful things.

Thank you for all the time you took away from your family, your home-making, your friendships and your own creative work to teach all of us through Studio A. I've been following (and learning from!) your work since you first appeared in CK and began blogging and it's clear that you've grown into a new space. CK will not be able to replace you or your work. I hope what you are leaving pales in comparison to the beautiful new beginning you are entering into.

I am mostly holding onto the fact that you are thinking about doing more online education! Yea! I am so loving your yesterday/ today class and I think you are just the inspiration I need to get things done in a simple yet intense fashion. Thank you for all that you do and I am so pleased that you are moving forward. It makes me excited to see what you can bring to us in the future. :) ~Erin

Oh my gosh! I scanned some of the comments above and I am clearly not alone. The best part about getting CK magazine every month was your article(s). Congrats on making a move. Change can be difficult.

I will be completely honest here. I don't read your blog on a daily basis. I might drop in once or twice a month. I have never taken one of your classes, or used any of the products you designed. But what you wrote in that column has truly revolutionized the way I scrapbook, and therefore, the way I see the world. Your principles and ideas marked me, and your layouts were truly beautiful. I will still suscribe to CK, but honestly, your column was the best thing in there. I hope to see more of you, and I am so sad to hear about this. However, if you say it was for the best, then it must be, and I hope to see more of you, like I know many others do!

OH NO!! Your column and Becky Higgins' both disappearing this month?! What will we do?? I always tear out the layouts that inspire me, but every month I tear out your column and Becky's sketches. CK will definitely be hearing from me...and may be losing a subscriber!
So excited for any new opportunities coming your way. I will continue checking your blog daily as every post is so inspirational.

I wish I would have known before I signed up for another 2 years for the magazine, or else I probably wouldn't have. First Becky now you there is no reason to read the magazine anymore :(

Wow, I am sooo bummed! The only reason I subscribe to CK is to read your column every month. I love seeing all your layouts in print, and then I usually clip them out and store them in a notebook to have all the inspiration at my hands. Thank you for so many years of inspiration in the past issues, and I only wish you the best of everything on your new paths.

Ali...with you and Becky gone...CK won't be the same. I do hope they survive without the creative genius of their 2 best columnists...but I am guessing it will be very tough.
Your blog has been the first thing I read in the morning for almost 2 years...so glad you will continue blogging. I am excited for the idea of some online classes!
Good luck in any new adventures you will be cooking up...we will be looking forward to a new "Studio Ali!"
