You Are Worthy : You Are Enough : Brené Brown DVD Giveaway

Brenebrown045

For quite a number of years now, I have believed that scrapbooking is a way to own our story.

Through documentation and exploration and simply getting the story down on paper we come to know ourselves better. And as my friend Dr. Brené Brown says, "we gain access to our worthiness."

I first met Brené, a researcher, writer and professor, a few years back at our now annual Oregon Coast summer retreat. She is an exceptional woman who inspires me in so many ways, most especially through her concept of wholeheartedness. We bonded over some of our "better" type-A qualities, years & years of swimming, good old sarcasm, and the fact that we both "like our crazy right up front."

Karen did a great interview yesterday with Brené here.

BBrownCaseFrontMed This week Brené is celebrating the release of her new DVD titled The Hustle for Worthiness with a Week of Worthiness on her blog. To help her celebrate I am giving away one of these DVD's today.

One of my favorite ways to celebrate "who I am" and "what I believe" is to capture the ordinary moments of life - the moments that tell the real everyday stories of our family. Leave a comment below sharing one of your favorite ordinary moments for a chance to win Brené's new DVD.

Comments will be closed tonight at 8pm Pacific with the winner posted shortly after.

Taking that extra moment to tenderly touch and pet my sleeping kitty right on top of her head, and watching her continue to sleep peacefully, confident that I am there to protect and love her. You can't rush that!

We pick up our 6-year-old grandson at his kindergarten and take him (twice a week) to his afterschool program at a local gym. This is one of my best times because he talks, really talks, to us about his day, things he's thinking about, how he feels about stuff. For example, some recent toics were when he didn't sleep well because he was worried about something, let me know he needed some extra consuling when his cat died (had been there all his life), a difficult situation with a classmate. He doesn't speak this way to his parents....it's a special multi-generational bond, a closeness that brings us great joy.

One of my favorite ordinary moments occurs at 7:20 each weekday morning. It's at this time that I walk with my kids (9 & 12) down to the corner to wait for the school bus to pick them up. While they're old enough to do this themselves, I enjoy these last few moments to chat and laugh before we all begin our work & school day!

Sitting on our front porch swing in the summer with my husband. It always draws our kids out of the house and we end up having some wonderful conversations.

A kiss every time before either me or my husband leaves the house...you never know what may happen and I want to give and receive a kiss so a warm thought is what is left with us if something was to happen.

One of my favorite ordinary moments is when I have a few minutes alone with one of my four children and we can just sit and talk about stuff. Having 4 kids makes the alone time with just one of them challenging!

I am also doing a Project Life album this year, and the process of taking the photos and journaling a bit about our day has really allowed me to focus on the beauty of our everyday. I have 2 toddlers right now, and this stage of our life is messy, chaotic and sometimes stressful, but focusing on the little things has given me a new perspective. Bonus: the kids love looking through the album, pointing, laughing and remembering.

Our new puppy gets up around 5:00 a.m., and I am not a morning person, but I love being outside that early. Everything is so quiet and it's refreshing.

One of my favourite everyday moments is how, ABSOLUTELY EVERYDAY, the kids come running to greet me at the door when I get home from work. They call out "Mommy, mommy" and throw their arms around my legs to give me a hug. It makes me feel very special to be so loved.

One of the best everyday moments that I cherish right now is when my youngest daughter says goodnight. It's the way she needs it to be: A hug, followed by a kiss, another hug and then the exchange of "Good night, love you, see you in the morning, love you." If it's not in that order, we start over. I love that goonight has to be perfect and that sometimes I mess it up, just because I want to start over.

Every 'ordinary' moment is a beautiful blessing in this gift of a life when I am awake to it. This morning I sat in my car in the parking garage and watched the rain drizzle before coming into my office to start the workday. If only I was always this present....

One of my favorite moments is snuggles w/my 6 yr old daoughter in the morning. She loves for me to get into bed w/her and snuggle as she slowly wakes up and starts talking about her plans for the day. She always wakes up w/a smile which starts my day out perfectly! :)
Thanks for the chance to win. Looks like a fab DVD! Would love her insights.

Last night, watching my second daughter just wandering around outside, just because she could. You could see on her face that she was planning for a time when she can be outside anyime and not worry about how cold it is.. :>)

Lately, one of my favorite ordinary moments is in that space of 20 - 30 minutes before I go to bed. I am usually catching the last minutes of some television program. To my right, my hubby is dozing off -- fighting sleep like a child -- and to my left, our dog has curled up on his pillow and drifted off to sleep. It's in that moment, with all that I've been through that day, and with all that I am anticipating in the coming days, I am happy.

I am reading Brene Brown's book right now and LOVE it! It's one of those books that I will read over and over...just to let everything sink in a bit deeper.
An ordinary moment: Waking my daughter up in the morning. She is 11 and has the most wonderful freckles that I wish I could memorize. And her breath always smells like asparagus. I never want to forget it.

I love when it's time for the kids to come home from school. The house transforms from a quiet, lonely place to one filled with action, giggles and love.
