Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero
Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]
Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.
I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.
Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).
Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.
To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.
Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.
My superpower comes into play first thing in the morning. When the kids have all been fed and they are playing happily together, I do one little job each day - like clean the kitchen sink, clear out the fridge, change the beds etc. It's great because I'm on top of the day before it's really started.

Yes, it sounds a little silly, but I am a super power speller! I am always the one people turn to when they need help spelling a word.

I think raising 4 kids, all ages 6 and under, to be good, strong, Christian people is something I'm proud of. It's not an easy task! But it's oh so rewarding. :)

My superpower is creating something interesting for dinner out of random things in the fridge and pantry - my husband will say we have nothing to eat, and then, voila! a healthy meal for the family appears. Thanks Andrea and Ali, for the lovely giveaway!

My superhero power is to be an encourager and a giver. I don't want to sound uppity, but I am a giver. I do not receive well and when I am in need, it is hard for me to be a receiver. I would much rather give to someone who needs a little something... be it a kind word, a meal during a stressful time or an anonymous gift. Recently my Mother in law passed away and it was very hard for me to 'accept' condolences, food, offers, etc. It is just me. It is who I am. I love to give. Thanks for your blog and prayers for the next few weeks. CindyML

Hmmm...
My teenage son calls me the Tyrant Queen - maybe keeping those boys in order is a superpower! But I think that my true superpower is found in the classroom. I love to connect with my little grade three students, to draw them out, to share the world with them, and to love them.

Two of my super powers are organization and an indescribable love for orphans. So much that we are in the process of adopting from Ethiopia. Through this my power of organization has come in very handy. All the paperwork and appointments have gone very smooth.
I love COLOR! Thanks for the chance to win one of her necklaces. They are awesome. Btw, I loved your yellow post from yesterday. Very inspiring!

I have incredible superpowers...I can prepare a great dinner for 4 in no time, finish a last minute school project before bedtime, take happy and funny photos, make my family and friends laugh daily and drive my kids everywhere to different sports and activities on time...okay, not great superpowers, but to them, I'm their superhero!

I think for me I'd have to say that my superpower is organising. I started a new uni course in August 08 and realised with 2 young girls, a busy dh and other things going on that I needed to be organised. Yes there has been the odd blip or three but overall it's been an amazing journey in organisation, prioritising and learning in many ways!

i am able to watch, feed & clean up after all of the neighborhood kids during a snow 2-hour school delay or cancellation (since i am the only mom who now stays home. . .) there may be anywhere from my own 2 to 5, 6, even 8 kiddos here! (today wasn't bad at 5!)

Hi Ali! Not too long until you meet Little A, huh?
I'd say my superpower is brainstorming. I love coming up with craft ideas, better ways to do things, organizing things. Its hard to explain. I think I have a reputation as "the crafty one."

My superhero power is that I inspire kids, (first my students and now my own children) to love literature. Jasper says,"Another dory-book, Mama!"

I think my super powers are being a good listener, a good organizer, thoughtful…come to think of it, I'm good at a lot of things. Thank you for making me think about it!
I'm a long-time fan of Andrea's blog, and of course yours, Ali.

Maybe I'm a sewing superhero. I LOVE it. Second to that, is snuggling with my kiddos a superpower? They think I'm the best at it, and that's good enough for me.

My superpower is being a peacemaker. I've been the volunteer coordinator at our local school for 5 years and one of the things everyone says about me is that I have an amazing ability to deal with many different people and create a harmonious working environment.

Ooh..love those necklaces!
My super power? Getting out and about with 3 kids, from ages 5 to 9 months. I get them (and me) all dressed and out of the house before 7:45! I am mommy, hear me roar! :)))

Honestly,
I think my superpower is my capacity to start over again and again. I am always looking for a better way to parent, keep house, be a good spouse. In life I am always working to get better.
I fail.
Often.
But I never give up. I continue to hope. I continue to believe I can do and be better than I am today.
I may take a break, but I will always get back up and try again.

My superpower would have to be calmness. I seem to be able to stay calm in a lot of not so nice situations and because of my "calm" my friends all ask my advice in their own yucky situations. I am very blessed to have this "superpower" and I am sure I will be using it while my new baby daughter grows up and provides both her Dad and I with challenges.
