One Little Word 2013

One Little Word necklace from Lisa Leonard.

My word for 2013 is open.

Last year I had a great story about how my word came to me. This year it was more of a whisper and to be honest I'm not really sure what it means for me right now, or what it will end up meaning for me 12-months from now. And I'm okay with that.

Open is an attitude and an approach. It's a reminder to live wholeheartedly, to enter the ring, to live the length and the width. It's how I want to tackle this year.

I love that open is an action & a re-action. I can act with an open heart; I can re-act with an open heart.

I want to be open to it all - the amazing and the challenging. Wide open.

Are you considering selecting a word for yourself (or letting one find you)? There's no right or wrong. The main thing to remember is that this is your word. It's not for your child, parent, partner, spouse, sister, etc.

And what do you do with this one little word?

You live with it. You invite it into you life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.

I'd love to read what word you've chosen or are considering for 2013. In the comments feel free to simply leave your word as your comment or write a bit about why you are choosing this word. In a couple days I'll combine all the words into a single post - super inspiring to see all the words in one place.

If you’re new to the concept of One Little Word, you can read some of my previous posts here: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

ONE LITTLE WORD WORKSHOP

Registration is open for 2013 and you're invited to join the journey.

Each month you'll receive a prompt with a simple creative, writing, or photography project and a gentle reminder to check back in with your word. By the end of the year you'll have compiled the contents of an 8.5x11 album that documents, defines, celebrates and generally makes your word more visible. Workshop materials include printable elements, full-color PDF handouts, and video presentations.

People have been asking me if you have to be a scrapbooker for this class. My answer is no. Even though we are making an album it's really more of a journaling/record keeping/thinking/exploring project. I'm excited to see how people interpret the prompts and make them meaningful for their own lives.

This is not complicated and it's not time-consuming. It's simply a way we  can come together to share our experience with our words throughout the  course of the year.

The One Little Word classroom opens on January 1, 2013.

My OLW will be REVIVE. So much has happened these past few years with depression and OCD in my life. The definition just speaks to me on a personal note.
    revive:
    1. To bring back to life or consciousness; resuscitate.
    2. To impart new health, vigor, or spirit to.
    3. To restore to use, currency, activity, or notice.
    4. To restore the validity or effectiveness of.
    5. To renew in the mind; recall.
    6. To present (an old play, for example) again.

I have some many goals for this coming year of how I want my life to be revived. I want my old self back but I also want to make some improvements. I need revival spiritually, physically, and emotionally.

I had picked 'receive' but then as I was working on a journal spread around that theme, I moved toward 'open'. It feels more organic to me...

...I'm very much looking forward to the One Little Word workshop! I did it the year before last, but didn't follow through. I have a bunch of Project Life stuff this year and feel like it'll be the perfect way to stay focused on my goal to record 2013.

Thanks for all you do, Ali. xo

Last year, I tried OLW for the 1st time and chose ACTION....and it served me very well. I acted on a lifestyle change which included better eating habits, exercise, more time with my family, a change in jobs which led to major move of our household to a completely different state!

This year I'm leaning towards PERSEVERE, but I'm not sure if I should continue to focus on the same things or go a completely different route...and word! Maybe SIMPLIFY as I may have acted on too many things this past year, LOL!

My word for 2013 will be "sense" -- and not just in terms of experiencing the world more fully through sight-smell-sound-taste-touch. It also pertains to a sense of direction, a sense of self -- of being more intuitive and noticing that which might otherwise pass me by.

My word is mingle. I'm newly single after a very long relationship and I tend to be a shut-in, so this year, I'm going to put myself out there, meet people, make new friends, and accept invitations.

I am going back and forth between STAND or BECOME. I like Stand for the ideas of "stand up" "stand firm" "stand out" and even knowing when to "stand down'. I like Become for the idea of becoming all I know I can be and living my life more fully.

My word for 2013 is breathe. I like the idea of breathing life into parts of my life that need to come alive and also the concept of taking a moment to breathe and take care of myself when things are overwhelming -- breathe in life, breathe out the troubles, breathe in the moments, breathe out the anxiety.

My 2013 word is "savor." One day I was just bursting with happiness and good feelings, and that was when "savor" came into my mind as my word. I realized that I am at a time in my life when I want to savor every moment and not take anything for granted. I want to live fully every single day and savor all of the good things that are a part of my life..

I wasn't planning to join but had my word find and nudge me.. "good". I was thinking of how I could either give the world good or bad, or possibly neutrality in my actions and words, but I decided that I wanted to bring more good to the world in 2013 because I think it could always use more. I have a tendency toward neutrality, status quo, keeping to myself, making things just ok. I want to be a good person, do good things, make good things... I want to surround myself with good.

Doing OLW again this year...my word is CONTROL. So much of my life has been out of control lately and I want it back. Control of my weight and health, control of my finances, control over the clutter and distractions in my home and life, control of my happiness. Looking forward to the challenges and discoveries OLW brings.

After posting my word, I started thinking that maybe it was "too simple." So I looked up do in the theasaurs. Synonums for do included achieve, complete, make, move, organize, etc. Yup, I picked the right word because that is what I want to do this coming year.
