One Little Word 2013

One Little Word necklace from Lisa Leonard.

My word for 2013 is open.

Last year I had a great story about how my word came to me. This year it was more of a whisper and to be honest I'm not really sure what it means for me right now, or what it will end up meaning for me 12-months from now. And I'm okay with that.

Open is an attitude and an approach. It's a reminder to live wholeheartedly, to enter the ring, to live the length and the width. It's how I want to tackle this year.

I love that open is an action & a re-action. I can act with an open heart; I can re-act with an open heart.

I want to be open to it all - the amazing and the challenging. Wide open.

Are you considering selecting a word for yourself (or letting one find you)? There's no right or wrong. The main thing to remember is that this is your word. It's not for your child, parent, partner, spouse, sister, etc.

And what do you do with this one little word?

You live with it. You invite it into you life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.

I'd love to read what word you've chosen or are considering for 2013. In the comments feel free to simply leave your word as your comment or write a bit about why you are choosing this word. In a couple days I'll combine all the words into a single post - super inspiring to see all the words in one place.

If you’re new to the concept of One Little Word, you can read some of my previous posts here: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

ONE LITTLE WORD WORKSHOP

Registration is open for 2013 and you're invited to join the journey.

Each month you'll receive a prompt with a simple creative, writing, or photography project and a gentle reminder to check back in with your word. By the end of the year you'll have compiled the contents of an 8.5x11 album that documents, defines, celebrates and generally makes your word more visible. Workshop materials include printable elements, full-color PDF handouts, and video presentations.

People have been asking me if you have to be a scrapbooker for this class. My answer is no. Even though we are making an album it's really more of a journaling/record keeping/thinking/exploring project. I'm excited to see how people interpret the prompts and make them meaningful for their own lives.

This is not complicated and it's not time-consuming. It's simply a way we  can come together to share our experience with our words throughout the  course of the year.

The One Little Word classroom opens on January 1, 2013.

My word kept changing between courage and nourish. I realized they both contain the word 'our' and was reminded of my OLW a couple of years ago (flourish); then it dawned on me: "encOURage".
I need to encourage myself to be- not only brave- but nurturing, patient, gentle, present, mindful and caring- towards myself...especially if I'm to encourage my 3 kidlets!

Mine is MINDFULNESS. We have a new member of our family and I need to carefully consider what I want to do with my even more limited free time, and how we can maximize our time together.

My word is 'release' - finding release for creativity and giving my imagination free rein, but also releasing my grip on the familiar, breaking free from the rut, letting go of things that weigh me down.

I'm trying to decide between two words "push" or "patience". Push to push outside the box test what I'm capable of and sometimes push outside my comfort zone. Patience to relax and enjoy what comes to me and where I find myself. That I don't need all my answers now and good thing come to those who wait, right?

I like the idea of both and trying to figure out which one best suits me for 2013!

My word for 2013 is benvenuto -Italian for welcome. I have been sick for the past week with a head cold and happened to catch Laura Pausini singing this song. I was smitten. I have been doing a lot of reflecting while sick and this word is what I need for 2013. Welcome the good and the not so good. Welcome everything that comes my way as it has a purpose. To make peace with what is and welcome what is to come. I googled the lyrics to this song and they are beautiful. Here is a link- I am going to keep the original word in Italian, as I like the ring it has to it :)

I´ve done OLW for about three years now and for 2012 I chose "FRESH". But this year has been really turbulent and I´ve even been treated for depression. Now when I think about it I think is actually something that I had to go through to get a fresh start...Weird right?

So for 2013 I´ve been struggling between the words balance, harmony and joy - and finally I´ve come to the conclusion to take JOY. I really need to see the joy in everything and keeping that thought in my head. I´m determined to make 2013 an awesome year!
Thanks Ali for doing this and I really hope I can take your class this year!
Lots of hugs to you - and I love your word....

My word for this year is also "open". I decided on it way back at the beginning of 2012 when I realized the word I had chosen wasn't working for me. So, I've been waiting almost a whole year!

My word is PLAY. To play with my girls more, to play creatively, to play with empty walls that need frames or art. To play with my husband while the kids are gone. So excited to ring in 2013.

My word this year is lighten, because it covers two of my goals for the year: "to become lighter/brighter" and "to illuminate." I am hoping for more clarity this year and to live the length and width (how I love that description). I am also trying to learn how to relax more and just enjoy the ride. So lighten works very for that too.

My one little word for 2013 is Pollyanna. I really want to view people as having the best of intentions something I don't always do. I think this can only make me a better person and have a positive outlook on life and the people who are in mine.

I haven't chosen a word before but this year I think I will. My word is BRAVE. I've been a real worrier since becoming a momma and it's been stopping me from really enjoying life as much I want to. So this year I will try and live and breathe BRAVE.

I have been waiting for my word to speak to me....and it finally did. My word this year is "DO". Actually what first came to me was "do more" Seems that I let time slip by and get stuck in routines and not finding some more active and fun things to do with my family and friends. It is not just big moments I want to embace but enjoy some simple things in life. As the world as involved into a giant social media frenzie and you get to be apart of everyones daily lives and see them enjoy wonderful things they are doing with their family and friends and makes me want to get out there and "DO". On the eve of my 50th birthday this coming February it is about time to start living aqain...starting "doing" and that is just what I plan to "do".
