Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero

Superhero

Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]

Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.

I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.

Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).

Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.

To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.

Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

I have Super Smile power. I've learned that a smile can make people feel comfortable, calm tough situations, make babies giggle, get me out of trouble, reassure others, show confidence and make other people feel better.
Once, I took a week-long vacation. When I started back in my daily routine at the gym, an older man stopped me and said. "I'm glad to see you're back - it's always so nice to your smile in the morning." That made me realize how powerful a simple smile can be.

Wonderful necklace. I don't know about super powers... I can cook a mean beef barley soup! I also wear many many crafting hats, which is fun for my daughter because she loves crafts too... and my beef barley soup.

Such beautiful beads. I would really feel like a superhero with one of those around my neck. You really make me think this morning. I am a superhero at empathetic listening - honed on years of being a nurse, wife, mother, friend. Able to listen without becoming emotionally entangled with the problem and able to just lend a quiet ear when no advice is desired and hugs are the only answer.

oh goodness - I need this! But a superpower, huh?
    hm.
Well - I'm often heard telling my kids that I can only do 27 things at once - but I suppose that the ability to do those 27 things at once might be in the superhero category. ;)
Take care of you Ali - I'm anxiously waiting baby news!

I have the power to see things no one else (in my house anyway) can see. I can see the ketchup hidden behind the oj, and the special lovey hidden under 2 weeks of laundry. I can see the clear lego, .2 inches wide, hidden in the bag of 10,000 legos. I can also see when my middle child really needs a day alone with his daddy, or when my oldest is anxious about a new situation. I wouldn't trade this power for any other.

I'm not sure it's a superpower, but I teach high school and every year I get better at relating to teenagers. It's a constant learning process, but I'm not too bad at it now.

love these necklaces - thank you so much for the opportunity.
this is a very difficult question for me to answer - something that i've not considered before.
i think my super power has to be the ability to talk kids down from hysteria. i am a middle and high school teacher with several emotionally disturbed students. they often have outbursts that are difficult to subside. i have a knack for talking them down and appeasing the situation. definitely one of the most satisfying aspects of my job. :)

I am a fantastic photographer. That is a statement that is hard for me to say because I am always doubting myself, but I hear it from others all the time so it must be true.
2009 is the year to start believing in ourselves.

i would have to say that my superpower is when i lay down at night with my three children 6,4, and 2 in a full size bed, with the reading lamp hovering over us...I read wonderful chapter books to them...i get into "voice" character and read with power...superpower so that they to will love reading. There is something about inspiring a child through books and the characters in the books that makes me feel like I have superpowers.

I would have to say my "gift" from God is in gardening. Not the vegetable kind. But beautiful pots and beds of annuals and perrenials. Love it!

Thanks Ali for making me recognize and share something wonderful about me.
My superpower is my ability to get out almost any stain that ends up on my children's and husbands clothes. I have mastered the mixing of all natural products, by trial and error of course, to come up with an array of homemade fighting power!!

Very cool idea for a giveaway. I have the power to forgive easily. Even if I want to, I can't hold a grudge against anyone. And I think that's a pretty cool thing

My superhero power? The ability to listen. I've been told more than once that they (the person) doesn't know why they told me what they did, but now they feel better. I love being able to help people out just by listening.

My superpower???? If I could call it a superpower then my hyperactiveness is the source of all my power. I get hyper over anything and that allows me to quickly finish tasks when they seem endless.

Wow! My superpower? I guess I'd say my superpower is cooking healthy dinners for my family ever night rather than eating fast food or easy-to-cook-but-unhealthy meals. I love that we have a family dinner every night - where all five of us talk about our Best and Worst from the day, including my two year old!

Ali- what a gret necklace. Hope I win it!
My super power would be patience. While my husband usually falls apart in stressful times, I am calm and patient. This has a big effect on my children.

Superpower? Let's see...I work full time outside of the home, raising 2 teenage sons (with the help of DH), chase them to ALL of their activities, laundry, cooking, cleaning (sometimes...ha, ha)...I'm thinking it's a miracle each day that I even get out of bed! Thanks for the chance to win...oh yeah, I help feed 2 cats, 1 dog & 2 gerbils in the morning too! jeez...what a life!
