Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero

Superhero

Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]

Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.

I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.

Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).

Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.

To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.

Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

My superpower: Comforting my son when he's hurt, sick or scared. There's noone who can make him feel better like his momma does. Oh how I love that honor...what a blessing!

I am a kindergarten teacher. I enter the room each morning with love, patience, compassion and excitement. That is my super power. No breaks, no help, just me and 23 five year olds.

My superpower would be ...to make an effort to keep in touch with people that I have been friends with since grade school. Not just holiday cards, but real life conversation. I just talked to my friend of 30+ years!

My superpower is... how do I pick just one? I am a great listener. I am a super aunt. I am a super duper bookmaker and general crafty-girl. I love these necklaces and would love to have one!

Hey Ali! What a coincidence, I just read the book Juicy Pens, Thirsty Paper by SARK and she mentioned Andrea's blog in her inspiration section so I checked it out yesterday and immediately added it to my bookmarks.
I've really had to think about my superpower and besides being able to hear my son anytime of the day no matter how loud the background noise is (that always amazes my dh); I think my best superpower is my ability to keep going in the face of adversity. When I feel most like quitting and giving up, this is when I find my true strength.
    Good luck everyone!

I have lots of patience with small children; however, it does not cross over to adults.

Teaching K-2 kids, mostly "disadvantaged" kids, how to read and write. Last week, one of my non-USA born kids wrote about watching the inauguration in my class. She wants to be President when she's older! Encouraging them to dream and dream big-that's my favorite!

    Hi Ali,
I am like every stay at home mom and I am awesome at multi-tasking and doing it all it seems...but I would have to say my super power has to be to be able to see the SILVER LINING in everything and deciding to be a positive person in life, sometimes it gets hard but it is a decision I have made in life and I feel a very good quality.

    My superpower?
I can make strangers into friends! I collect a lot of things, but collecting friends is the most worthwhile and treasured collection of all.

That's a beautiful necklace. My superpower is my honesty. My friends know that if they want an honest opinion about anything, they can come to me and I will give them the truth, even if I know they don't really want to hear it, but I will do it in a loving and constructive way. That's my superpower.

my superpower? I have "bionic hearing" as my husband calls it. We can be at a party and I can hear what he's saying even if he's a couple of conversations over. Comes in handy sometimes... :)

I've always considered my superpower to be my MacGyver-like resourcefulness. I think my mom passed it down to me, but I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that I, too, possessed that skill!!

I recently discovered a new superpower when I traveled to England with my 17 month old daughter on my own. I could believe I survived the 9 hour flight home without my husband to help wrangle her.

    Ali,
    What a beautiful giveaway...
My superhero is that I keep my husband grounded through all the rough times that he faces in his job. He has climbed the ladder over the years and gone from working in the craft to supervising hundreds of people. With this change has come eight moves to five different states and every one has been so very hard. But I continue to support all that my husband does because he takes such good care of our tiny little family.

My superhero name is "Learns Quickly." I am very lucky to be able to learn just about anything quickly. I learned to knit in one night, I learned to quilt in one week, I learned to scrapbook in one night, etc. This gives me a great ability to find my own style because I don't spend a lot of time frustrated with not being about to have things work right away.
Now if only I could add "Great Teacher" to my name.
