Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero

Superhero

Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]

Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.

I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.

Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).

Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.

To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.

Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

My superhero is my Dad. He can do anything, and he is the wisest man I know. He is 74 and I have yet to meet a man that compares to him. I pray my daughters marry superheroes like him.

My superpower is concern and encouragement. I am always concerned when someone is having difficulty in life and sometimes I do no more than send a card, but sometimes people will say that is exactly what they needed, a few uplifting words.

Our daughter has a dairy allergy. I have managed to cope by baking. Since she can't have many storebought treats (and who can deny a small one treats??) I learned to make cupcakes, cookies, pies, breads...wonderful, tasty, creative things that you'd never guess weren't the real deal. In the process, we've collected sprinkles like Ali collects scrapbook supplies and made wonderful memories. I may have stacks of scrapbook things I hope to get to someday, but I can sure whip up a batch of tasty love quick. Here's hoping I don't have to learn how to bake a wedding cake.

Wow - that necklance is beautiful! Let's see... my superpower... that's tough because I never thought of myself as being super at something. I would have to say it would be my patience (though it has whithered a bit through the years). When it comes to children I've been told I have tremendous patience and a special calmness with them (I love children!).

What a beautiful necklace! I'm definitely going to have to check out her site.
My superpower ... like others have said, I've not thought of anything I do being "super" but as I look back over my daughter's lifetime, I'd have to admit that I'm a great mom to her & her friends. Our home is one where the door's always open & my heart's always opened itself to my daughter's friends. We live in a community where many kids grow up without much involvement of any sort from their own families, so I've always handed out hugs, listened to any & all - hopefully, helped the kids realize there are those who do indeed care & love them.

I have the ability to see good when others only see bad. I can turn a grumpy, cranky 3 year old into a happy sassy little girl again. Some say that I am too optimistic, but come on, HOW can you be TOO optimistic?

My superhero power is super radar hearing. I can hear the bus coming from four blocks away, I can hear water running before it's turned on and I can hear children silently doing something they are not supposed to be doing!

My superpower is multitasking! I never have one project going... but 20. I am a mom, wife, school teacher, scrapbook teacher, friend. I have 6 layouts and projects that I am working on at once. People constantly say, "How do you do it all?" I got to say, I get bored when I don't have a lot to do!.
    Thanks for the chance, Ali

Ok this feels weird to be bragging on myself. . . but I am a mom of 4 kids who all are now in college and they each are extremely smart, personable and loving adults. So I think what I am most proud of is being a good mom!
On a smaller scale, I am a super reader and organizer.

    That necklace is beautiful!
My superpower? I think that would have to be organization. LOL. I love to organize things and I think I'm pretty good at it so I'm going to go with that. Oh, and something worth mentioning that is a close second - I walked out of Target over the weekend and bought NOTHING. Now THAT never happens so I'm going to consider it a superpower, too! Hee hee! Thanks, Ali! :)

    My Superpower:
The ability to clean a mess that would normally takes hours in the matter of minutes... and not just by shoving it all in the closet.
However, this superpower only comes out every once in a while. In desperate situations when my other superpower, procrastination, has had it's way for way too long.
Oh. I also have another superpower... I'm incredibly calm. It's alarming to some.
    Yay! I have three superpowers!

This is helping me dig deep... as a woman, I think we sometimes lose ourselves in the many roles that we take on everyday. I am a superhero within. I have powers to calm myself. I have the amazing power born within me to nurture others.

Hi. Love, love the necklaces. My superpower is my mom multi-tasking, which I'm called on to use at almost every turn with 5- & 2-year-old boys!

Mine isn't the most useful in every day life but I bet noone else claims it. I can tell if a fruit fly (tiny things around your compost bin) is male or female with the naked eye. Blame an undergrad research project, I spent a summer sorting them under a microscope until I didn't need it any more. For anyone who wants to try it, males have hairy knees - seriously, that's what you're looking for.

My superpower is that I'm organized. I'm the one that makes sure we have milk in the fridge and make sure we don't forget the little things when we go on trips. My husband calls me the 'glue' of the family.

Superpower? Well I think I am good at listening and offering words of advice. I hate when someone is beating themself up. I like to remind them to say something positive about themselves. I believe that everything happens for a reason and you have to always look at it as the glass is half full. :) Dawn H

I make great cupcakes. What my children don't know is that one of the magic ingredients is some chocolate orange powdered cocoa that they don't like. LOL
