Why is it that I have this nice big workspace but it always ends up that I work in one little corner? Anyone relate to this?

Yes, i can totally relate. I had very good intentions to come into my office today take everything off, put in a box and totally reorganize. It just hadn't happened yet.

I've come to believe that no matter how large the workspace I have, I don't like to "travel"....I want whatever I need to be within arm's reach. So my 'real' workspace is determined by the radius my arm reaches.

I always wonder the same thing. So glad to know that I'm not alone. :) Time is so precious now that I choose more often to spend it getting progress done on a layout than clearing my table. But eventually I can't work with blinders on so the table must be cleared and the creativity pauses.

Can completely relate. Although since I've gotten my cute little macbook (I'm naming her Charolette) I'm trying hard to keep my work space clean. Even my hubby thinks she looks so cute sitting on the desktop in all her glory.

I hear you on this one. I have a room that is what some might call a mud room...right insie the garage door. Everyone enters the house here. The room is 10 X 15 and everyone has cubbies and hooks but somehow everything and I mean EVERYTHING lands on my desk. The only benefit I see everything...works in progress, old school paper, toys that are of interest right now, doodled notes, snacks that are being snuck (wrappers in the trash) you name it, it all passes by the craft room! Great idea to photograph it even though I hate the mess it does have a lot of information about our life! Have a good one.

By the end of my project I am usually working on inches left of my work space - sometimes I finish practically on my lap!!!!

I just spent some time at my MIL's house; I have been envious of her office with its long countertops and wide open spaces for years! Guess what? I ended up scrapping on the small space in front of my laptop - every. single. time. I totally relate. ;-)

Oh, definitely! I have a huge L-shaped area and invariably I am huddled between one mess and the other. It's like cooking, I guess. Get all your inspiration/ingredients out, and then go at it. Dishes are done later. Do NOT interrupt the creative process, LOL!

Yes, I make such a mess when I'm working on a project. As I get stuck in, the table gets completely covered in stuff.
So does the floor by my feet, the sofa behind me, the chair next to me...until I have have to stop what I'm working on because I can't find my glue or scissors anymore!

[Laughing] as I look at my desk that is so covered that I have been scrapping on the floor.

I clean up my desk all the time. but when you start on a project by the end I only have 1/4 of the desk. I have a table next to me also and that is always a mess. I guess the less messy you are the less creative juices are going through you.

hmm, given all the affirmative comments, this must be some sort of scrapper's malady! I do the same thing - glad to see there is company in numbers.

Is it part of being *this type of artist* that makes us inherently messy?
I have 4 work surfaces and have to use the floor for space!

Heck yeah! And it drives me crazy till I finally get the urge to clean it (like around 12:00 last night, way past my bedtime). Looooove it - for the day or two it stays clean. Oh well... it's all about process, right? That's what I keep telling myself, anyway. :)

Absolutely! But, being I don't have a dedicated space for my memory-keeping & crafting, I don't deal with this too often because making time and space to work in general is more of an issue for me. I have to drag everything out, find what I want to work with, hope my inspiration & creative mood stays with me through all that and then pack it all up again and put it away when I'm finished.
    You totally rock, Ali :)

Yup...I actually have to move stuff on to chairs to be able to work. I think that I am going to "clean as I go" but then I think...Mmmmm...I might need that again.
I could sen you a picture of my work station...it looks just like yours.
