Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero

Superhero

Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]

Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.

I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.

Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).

Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.

To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.

Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

As a second grade teacher, I have the superpower of hearing conversations across the room that have nothing to do with what they are supposed to be doing.

Gosh, my superpower....I guess it would be making things work. I am good at figuring things out and making it work no matter what it is. My husband does not appreciate that:) This is truly a beautiful piece.

I think I am a super story collector. As an a teacher of young children, I try to make time every day to listen to and record the stories my students bring to school. It is funny to see this post after I just wrote about this today on my blog. Thanks

I must narrow it down to one superpower?...I guess that would be my ability to start IV's on the first stick for premature babies. I know it sounds sick, but somebody's got to do it and if I must say so myself...I'm darn good at it! Parents and babies really appreciate this talent as well.

My superpower is being uber calm during times of extreme stress. Have you seen that (terrible awesome) Angelina Jolie movie Wanted? The characters can use their adrenaline to focus so closely it is almost as though time slows down. I can do something somewhat similar during crises.

Not an everyday thing, to think of myself as someone with super power, or as a super hero. Yet this has prompted me to realize that as a NICU nurse, I see incredible healing and growth happen every day and to be a part of this process is very empowering. What it means to care for a baby born too early and his/her family is something that's hard to really explain for me; yet I know that this is my calling and purpose - knowing my purpose, how much power is that?

I am THE PROBLEM SOLVER, I'm good at looking at both sides of an argument, data, facts, etc. and identifying a solution to the problem.

My superpower is being able to make even the most suicidal patient smile, if only for a moment. I work on the psychiatric unit of our local hospital and assess suicidal patients in both the emergency room and on medical floors after illness or self-inflicted injuries. If you listen to someone talk long enough, something eventually comes up to smile about. Sometimes people just need someone else to ask the right question. I know this to be true. It happened again just yesterday...

I think I am a superhero because I am a Medical Assistant at a Pediatric office and I deal with kids and parents with a giant smile on my face everyday, even though I have to give shots and tests that don't always make everyone else in the room smile!

My superpower is that I am able to be a great friend, mother, wife and still be happy with myself. I make sure that I take care of myself along with those around me because if I'm not happy then how can I help others.

My superpower, as corny as it may sound, is love - genuine, pure and unconditional. Thank you for making me realize that I am a superhero !!! :) Maria

Some of my friends jokingly call me supermom so maybe that is my super power. I love being part of my daughters' lives. I am room mom for each of their classes, girl scout leader for both of their troops, religious ed teacher. I love having their friends over at our house - the more the merrier!
Thanks for the chance to win!

Hello! What a beautiful necklace! I love this post. I really had to think about my superpowers. My power is respecting others. I think if we use common sense and treat others with respect even if we disagree or we are in a hurry, we can make the world a much better place. Thanks!

    Hi Ali,
This is really an interesting topic to post on. Hmm. My superpowers? I'm great at worrying about everyone else and trying to anticipate their needs. I'm also pretty darn good at finding "lost" and misplaced items.

My superhero power would definitely have to be my ability to calm my son by singing four simple songs: twinkle, twinkle; baa baa black sheep, the abc song and a song about him to the same tune as all three of those. He IS the only person in the world who appreciates my singing voice...makes me feel like a million kazillion superheros.

    What cool necklaces--thanks for sharing!
I love the superhero question because I don't usually think about myself that way. I would have to say my superhero quality (that I'm continuing to develop) is hospitality. Whenever we welcome friends into our home, I love to take care of them--sometimes through food and beverages, and at other times, by lending an ear. I want people who come into our home to feel comfortable and welcome.

Ohhhh good question! I would have to say my superpower is organization. My life is organized into planners, calendars, and little jars that sit on my scrap desk in color wheel order. It makes my life seem so much less cluttered than it truly is.
