Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero

Superhero

Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]

Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.

I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.

Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).

Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.

To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.

Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

Well just based on the comments of what others have always told me, My super power is the ability to pick out just the right gift for someone. Something perfect for them at that time.

My Superpower... I have always been asked how I do it all, how I balance everything in my life and I still have time to look "nice" every day.
My Superpower: taking care of my family (4 kids ages 13, 7, 6, 5 years old, husband, and puppy); cooking almost on a daily basis; my career (Kindergarten teacher at heart), hobbies (scrapbooking, knitting, crochet, taking pictures, and baking); and now as if that was not enough I added going back to school: I'm in the Educational Leadership Masters Program and I'm also working towards earning a credential in administration.

my super power is the ability to make middle school students laugh...no easy task to do for people who huff and puff and roll thier eyes at most everything but sometimes, even at the price of sacrificing my own dignity I have them rollin in the aisles!

How easy is it to overlook our superpowers? Today, I'd have to count 'not losing my cool while dealing with a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old who are pushing every button their mommy has' as my main superpower. ;) Hanging out with patient, controlled people has definitely reaped its rewards today!

Wow...I always think everyone around me is so much better, more creative, skinnier, etc. But I did what you said and put on my thinking cap...you know what...I do have super powers. My super power comes in my job. I am a great accountant. We are not in debt, our past dues are a small percentage of the receivables, the bills are paid, and we have not had to lay anyone off. In this economy that is something to be proud about.
Also as a side note...my hubby retired a year and a half ago...he was a fireman and gone for 48 hours at a time...I had a lot of alone and scrapping time...now he is home everyday...and it takes a lot of super powers to deal with that!!!!!

I think in my household, I am the "Finder Superhero." I seem to be the only one that can find what someone else in the household is looking for, even when it is right in front of them, or in my hubby's jacket pocket. (Yes, he called me one time asking where his keys were....Me-"Have you checked your coat pocket, the one you were wearing yesterday?" Him-"No, oh they're there." lol

Superpower Huh????? I make fourth graders learn math strategies in the blink of an eye! (I wish). It's more like....in 180 days and then I'm hopeful 1/3 of the knowledge will stick and carry on. Twenty-six fourth graders can suck the super powers right out of you.. along with your sanity.

    great question Ali -
i think all moms are superheroes!
if i were to have a choice of superpowers it would be patience/gentleness. i have a friend who embodies gentleness. but i do have the power to be a good listener and to be kind.
and I love the necklace - it is so cool!

    hello ali + andrea!
i'm awesome at putting myself in someone else's shoes. empathy is my superpower today at least. my other superpower would be finding things on the street... treasures in the form of clothing and household items. hey, the treasure seeking pirate! i hadn't thought of that before :)
    thanks for reminding me!

Apparently I have a super power that others can see, but I can't. I work full time, have 2 great kids, scrapbook (pretty well if I say so myself), do other arts and crafts, volunteer when I can, etc. What I see is the dust on the furniture, laundry that piles up, beds that aren't made and a muffin top that I never can seem to get rid of! I wish I could see what the others do!

My superpower is accepting the fact that my house doesn't have to be perfectly clean, organized, or decorated to be a happy home.

I'm an elementary school art teacher and my superpower comes in very handy... daily. I am able to make mom-sick kindergarteners, "bad recess hangovered" third graders, even too cool for school six graders and hypnotize them with the power of art. A fresh box of crayons can turn any frown upside down.

    Hi--
I think (I could be wrong) that my superpower is PATIENCE. I am a Kdg. teacher to 21 and also have a 12 yr. old, 8 yr. old and 2 yr. old at home. Tonight they are totally testing me on it too!

Love the jewelry (especially with the green beads), and I have enjoyed all the things you have been sharing on your blog, Ali. Very cheery nursery! :)
Superhero power: keeping 4 children fed, clothed, (overall) clean, content and (relatively) happy everyday. I also feel that although not always prompt, I write from the heart when it comes to thank-yous, greeting cards and personal expressions. I know things I have written to my family and friends have made them feel good about themselves, and that in turn makes me happy.

My superpower is really good hearing. It has served me well in many instances, especially since I'm a teacher. Nothing funnier than hearing a kid jab his pal and say, "Dude, she heard you!" Poor kids, can't get away with much when my ears are on the job.
