Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero

Superhero

Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]

Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.

I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.

Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).

Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.

To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.

Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

My Superhero talent: I have the ability to "pick up" on bits of conversations, little looks, moods, and other tidbits. Thus, I can tell who in the family is distressed, depressed, cranky, being misunderstood, didn't hear quite clearly, is in need of some "alone time" or just wants to be quiet. I feel my role is often either "peacemaker" or "interpreter". I think it's a "MOM" thing...

How fun! I think my super power would be something along the lines of being able to anticipate my family's needs!

My superpower: right now, I'm super-student! And since I'm in grad school, I think that's a pretty good superpower to have! Love your blog, Ali...always full of inspiration, and links to other fun stuff!

You know, I think that I know a little about a lot of things and don't feel like I excel in any one thing --- well that is what I used to think until I had my son and then had my daughter 2 years later. My body is really good at childbirth. Not being pregnant ... just the 5-7 hours of labor and delivery. My body seems to know what to do without me having to think too much. Now don't get me wrong ... it is the most excrutiating pain ... ever ... but my body goes with the flow and those two times have really blown me away: "Wow!" "I can't believe my body just did that!" All mothers are superheros in my eyes!

Thank you for the opportunity to maybe win such a beautiful necklace. I think one of my super powers is that I am able to use my experiences to help others during their times of trial.

    Hi Ali!
My superpower is working with 9 and 10 year olds. I teach 4th grade, and every day my goal is to connect with each of my students and make him/her feel super about who they are!

Tonight my most recent superhero power is making dinner from nothing, or what I can find in my cupboards without going to the Grocery store....I'm surprised how easy it is when I need to do it...Another superhero power I have is my strength. 35 weeks pregnant I've been through a rough pregnancy and I'm surviving even through things I never would have expected. I'm so powerful even at times when I feel my weakest. Yeah me!

Wow...these are big thoughts! My superpower is duality. I always try to see both/all sides of issues and ideas, and explore options. I have a knack for playing devil's advocate! I appreciate and honor this superpower because it helps me empathize with almost everyone, while also helping them expand their own opinions. Sometimes my superpower makes it hard for me to know what I believe - I can cherish so many standpoints. But in all, I'm fortunate to have an open mind and a welcoming heart.

Do I think I have superpowers? Not on your life! But I HAVE been able to homeschool 3 children for the past 7.5 years, run a household, and even work part-time for a while, all while maintaining my sanity. I have also spent the past year learning a ton about digital scrapbooking and am proud to say that I am not intimidated by technology!

For the past 23 years, on a daily basis during the school year. I manage 100 plus kids daily while transporting them back and forth to school. I believe anyone can drive a bus, but it take a special people to be a true school bus driver. I feel I am lucky to be one of those people that are a true school bus driver. Okay some people think I am crazy and ask how I can do this. But if you show respect to the children, they will show it back. Lean a caring ear, and they will share. Show care, and you will get it back.

LOVE that necklace...off to check out her other stuff now too!
I'd have to say that my superpower is the ability to maintain some sort of sanity while my husband deploys for work (Navy). He's gone for months on end, but the house stays standing, the kids stay healthy (mostly), bathed and fed & all the bills get paid too!!
    Thanks for the contest!
